About
Check out a different side of Naples—think: an extensive labyrinth of tunnels that snake underneath the entire old town. Underground Naples offers a fascinating combination of caves, galleries, and passages 131 feet below the ground. Follow the official Napoli Sottrerranea route, which will bring you to the Roman Theater and the Greek-Roman aqueduct, or join a separate tour to visit the Galleria Borbonica which used to be a tunnel intended for the then King of Naples to flee if intended. It's highly recommended to pre-book skip-the-line tickets online to avoid long lines at the entrance. – Tripadvisor

Great couple of hours for older kids
Fantastic tour. We did this 5 years ago so had an idea what to expect but our kids were wowed by what they saw and heard. Our guide was personable and funny, and spoke good English. Love that you move to 2 additional sites and get to see so much.

All the explanations were so clear and our guide DeboraH was so kind and avaliable to answer our demands. The place is humid but is safe, needs attention. Than, she also taked us to know a theatre from the first and second century

Unique way to see a city!
The tour takes you 40 metres below Naples into the old aqueducts and impromptu Second World War bunkers, with a really informative (if not occasionally forgetful) guide. Highlights include seeing the old water channels and the showers/toilets used in WW2 - as well as a very tight walk through some of the original walkways from thousands of years ago - it’s a very tight squeeze but don’t worry if you are claustrophobic, as you can miss that section and it’s only 15 minutes of a full 2 hour tour. After the underground section, the guide walks you across town to the ruins of the old amphitheatre telling stories of the emperors that once performed there. Really great tour and really unique way to see Napoli, but it only gets 4 stars because it’s got barely any information outside about tour times, tour languages or even tour length. We turned up and winged it but you are able to pre-book which would probably remove my only complaint! At about €15 per person on the door for two hours and lots of sights it’s well worth it!

    Interesting
We enjoyed this tour, very good value for money Our guide Luis ( I think !) was very knowledgeable calm and funny Really interesting and lovely and cool in the July heat ! The tour is good hard to hear at times when other party’s talking nearby The getting in is so chaotic and unorganised with very rude staff a few simple signs would have helped !! But would recommend seeing the underground Naples thank you

    Best underground experience ever!
We went for an English speaking tour and our tour guide Maja was INCREDIBLE! We enjoyed nearly 1:30 hrs underground and were simply amazed by the stories Maja told us about the place. She did an amazing job guiding us through the tunnels and managed to grip the audience whenever she spoke. We‘d definitely come here again.

    Fascinating tour through the aqueducts
Fascinating history of the underground aqueducts and their use during WWII. Alex, our guide made the tour -he was so funny, knowledgeable and all around excellent. Narrow passageways were both fun and spooky to walk through and if you have claustrophobia you can sit out in a cave for those parts.

    Loved the claustrophobic part!
Carve out the hour to cool down underground and do this tour. It was nice to break up the day out of heat/sun underground. There is a part of the tour that is very claustrophobic if that bothers you! It was my favorite part lol Crazy to think people stayed down here and lived like that for time on end! My only complaint is there are alot of photos online that make this place look "cooler" than it actually was. I think they try to upsell the marketing so I was a little disappointed but overall it was interesting hear about the underground world!

A little pricey, but a very memorable and interesting tour.
Wonderful walking tour of the Sebtarranean Naples. We found the tour really informative, engaging and fun! Don't want to give away spoilers, but would highly recommend, unless you're claustrophobic (though some bits can be skipped)! We felt it was a little bit pricey, compared to the value of other Naples attractions, but that aside would thoroughly recommend.

Cool tour, well worth the effort.
This was an enjoyable tour. Our guide spoke good English, although sometimes it was hard to hear him. We explored the ancient Greek quarries under the city, and then saw parts of the Roman amphitheater. This amphitheater is now inside of an ordinary looking apartment building - - astonishing. It is 40 m underground, about 140 steps. Our guide was cognizant of the effort required for this. Also, at some point we were going through some very tight spaces, which some people opted out of. We opted for the pizza add-on, which was at a restaurant nearby, afterward. It was fine.

Great tour guide & fun experience
I wasn’t overly looking forward to this experience but it was brilliant! Our tour guide (I think he was called Mikhael, I know he was from Helsinki) was very funny and interesting and had so much energy. I am a little claustrophobic and found it ok, but you can skip most of the narrow tunnels except for one at the beginning that only takes 8 seconds to get through. I did find it a little scary taking the 100+ steps down (fear of heights trumps fear of enclosed spaces for me) but it was fine going back up so the scary bit is over at the beginning if you are scared of heights. Didn’t see any spiders either! My favourite part of the tour was at the end when we went to see the old theatre or what remains of it. This was a lovely surprise as initially I thought the tour was over by this point.

Very interesting history. The tour was on a set schedule and took more than an hour. The tour guides seemed over it. Not the most efficient line/ticketing process.

The "2 hours" tour that is announced online lasted a little more than 1 hour - for 15 EUR we would've expected more. It felt like they're trying to rush trough as many tourists as possible.

We did a guided tour of the Underground City. It was very good and very informative.

Best to book in advance as its very popular.

Underneath the historic centre of Naples there is an underground city containing is an extensive network of streets and squares built by the Romans and Greek.

Its located 40 metres below street level and is well preserved networkscaves, tunnels and underground passages during your tour.

You will descend 136 steps you will find the Greek Roman Aqueduct. The area you visit is initially well lit, but in some parts it is too dark. You will view the underground water basins and move through narrow corridors of the aqueduct.

The last stop of the Naples underground tour is to visit a typical Neapolitan house,

These tunnels are amazing and should not be missed. A lot of people had not heard of them. It is worth the experience. Our guide was knowledgeable and her English was easy to understand. You enter through an almost non-descript door and come out through an indoor garage with shops. Not to be missed.

The tour began very well. Guide was informative and interacted with the group well. Then at the halfway point, we were told we were going to enter the narrow part of the tunnels. The group went through with the guide leading. I was third from last with my wife behind me and a man from Denmark. At the first narrow point I could hear him say he was stuck. I backtracked to my wife and then we both went back to him as we could not switch places. I talked to him and told him to raise his arms to make himself thinner. He was able to finally get through the narrowest part after tearing his shirt on the rock wall. We then proceeded on and once again the walls narrowed. I told him to wait there as I remembered the guide telling us the narrow part was just the beginning but it opened up. I went ahead and in about 40 feet found the open room. I went back and told the man to wait for me because I was going to let my wife follow me out and then come back, but it was just a short distance. I went back and told him to give me his things in his hand and than I would help him through. After much talking him through and squeezing, he made it out. All of us were now in a large room with 4 possible exit points but no guide/group. I told my wife and the mad to wait as I scouted options. I had a sense of where we needed to go because the guide indicated that we would eventually end up in the same room we had started in. I went one way and came to a split. I decided to go back and explore one of the other options. It was immediately blocked by a gate, so I knew I had to try another. I went 100 feet down another tunnel and came to another metal gate. I returned to the room and told them to follow me on the original path. We went in and eventually came to another large room. Again, I had to decide which was was best and fortunately guessed right. We came out to the surprise of another guide conducting a tour. She told us where to go and we made it out. Back up top, we told the people what had happened. The man was obviously upset that the guide had left us and especially him. He demanded a refund and also one for us for missing the second half of the tour. This is when I was actually the most shocked. The lady in charge told him that, "the tour was voluntary and it was his decision to go in the first place." After pressing her, she finally gave him a refund minus 5 Euro. He said the amount was 5 Euro short and she said to him that she kept that back for a tip to the guide. She then told my wife and I that we could wait one hour for the next tour in English but no refund would be granted because we were not harmed and chose to stay with the man instead of following the guide. (BTW, there were 35-40 people between me and the guide while in the tunnel). I would not use this company and am sure there are other options to see the underground since there are miles and miles of tunnels under the city. I would not recommend the company but would recommend going and seeing the underground tunnels because their history is fascinating. Adding a photo of our ticket to show we were there and not have this company deny anything ever happened.

Amazing site to visit. However the guide for the tour in English did not provide enough interesting historic information ... The groups are also too big (more than 50 people) to fully enjoy the visit.

I was a bit worried to do this because I don't really like depth but this was completely fine. The tour lasted for 90 minutes as promised. Booked the ticket online in advance (2 days before) on Tiquets as there were no tickets left on tha main website. On the day of tour we got to the entrance 15 minutes before the starting time and didn't have to wait at all as they started letting everyone in who had the tickets. Very well organized!!
Could have heard more about the underground system and discovered more parts but was happy to see the backstage of the old theatre. Mikael, our guide from Finland made the tour very enjoyable with all the interesting detailes he shared. Thank you!

Well worth it, but don't book online for $100+AUD when you can literally queue up and be in within 10-15mins for 15euro.
Interesting and informative, hot too, not cold as expected! There's a narrow part which is easily doable despite the claustrophobia warnings. Stair warning up and down though, no lifts so be prepared!
