Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I was looking forward to taking these stairs down from Vomero as I heard it is a must! However I was disappointed. The stairs were full of rubbish and broken glass. There were some good views but that was is it.
To me it was not worth the trip.Maybe if they clean it up a bit and make the journey up and down a bit more pleasant.

A long walk but the steps are not steep, and with the amazing views we don´t bother to be tired....it´s safe and in the afternoon we can take good pictures from all Naples ( west side ) with the best sunlight. It ends in a square with a great view.

The views after you walk the Pedamentina are absolutely worth the climb! Definitely bring a bottle of water, however there is a little cafe when you reach the top if you don't. The weather was a little overcast, but it didn't take away from the views at all. If you're in Naples you definitely need to do this hike.

Tip: take the cable car up and walk down - the best views are from the top parts of the stairs and outside the Castello. It’s a bit of a walk up so bring water. In the middle of the day the shade is limited and at the start of the day it’s quite hazy so view for photos could be affected. Easy to find using maps.

Your visit to Volmero isn’t complete without a trip up the Pedamentina San Martino. Built in the 14th Century, this zig-zagging 416-tread stone staircase leads 650 meters up the hill to Sant'Elmo Castle and the Certosa di San Martino complex with beautiful views along the way. The foot of the stairs can be less than obvious. To find the entrance to the Pedamentina, walk the Corso Vittorio Emanuele. When you reach a large orange-ish building, inscribed “Istituto Tecnico Commerciale A. Serra”, the entrance is exactly opposite, on the other side of the street.
Once you have reached the top, you'll discover upscale shopping, some nice restaurants, bank ATMs, and the funicular station that will take you down the hill the easy way if you like, right back to where you started.

If you really want to see massive Naples in its beauty please take Line 1 metro towards Piscinola and get off on Vanvitelli station and follow Via Morghen till you see funicular station. Take funicular if tired. I preferred local streets. And here it is. The giant in its beauty! You will be amazed how big and picturesque and chaotic Naples is!

A lovely walk down the historical center. Its recommended to take one of the funiculars up to the castle and then have a walk over here to the Pedamentina. Once you reach the end, its less than 5 minutes walking to reach the beginning of the Spanish Quarter and all the shops and restaurants.

Enjoyed the views for sure. Easy ride up on the funicular and got a little lost until we found Ft Elmo. Taking the stairs down was easy. The start of the descent had an excessive amount of broken glass so you had to watch your footing as it made it slippery. I would not recommend walking up unless your are very fit. Enjoy!

The steps connecting Castel Sant’Almo and the city sprawl below allowed us to descend towards the sea amidst the green slopes. The 414 steps offer choice panoramic views that change at every stage. The views over the bay is rewarding as are the dilapidated buildings and slum housing. Glad we were in a guided tour.

A stairway built centuries ago, it retains some of its elegance today, but really needs a touch of tender loving kindness, a good clean-up and basic signposting. There are over 400 stairs, but they are wide and shallow and are interrupted with short paths. The views across Napoli and the bay are great. The stairway ends up in a somewhat non-descript area.
