Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A small pearl in Pompeii, this theater has a special charm in the past where poems and songs were formed. The theater is really well maintained and going along the steps of the stands you have the feeling of going back in time

This was a very good site. Worth the walk up the tiers and imagine how it would have been, in the day.

A relatively small theatre holding about 1500 people, built between 80BC and 75BC. it would originally have been covered by a roof but is now open to the sky. Some of the dressing rooms are also preserved.

Our tour guide made sure we spent some time at the Odean, which is a small or miniature theater (maybe a third of the size of the large theatre). Since there was no one else there at the time, she encouraged each of us to stand on a spot in the center of the stage and say a phrase, so that we could appreciate the fantastic acoustics of the theatre. It is something you have to witness to appreciate. From that spot on stage, words spoken in a normal voice can be heard throughout the theatre.

Well worth a little extra time.

OH MY WORD this is massive and amazing to imagine how this was constructed to precision. Pink Floyd played their consent here to no audience and this was amazing to think we stood right where the battles took place and the concert at the same time... well preserved and a privilege to be here

This theater located in Pompei really gives a nice feeling of what life must have been in the city before the Vesuve explosion. Well worth sitting in and reflecting on life of Pompeians.

Just across from the large theatre is the small Odeon or little theatre. This was used for music recitals and poetry readings and was roofed over to protect the spectators from the sun or inclement weather. It is well preserved, the stairs are intact as is the seating, but access to the seating area is not allowed.

Another amazing building to have survived from the time of the eruption. You could just image what it must have been like on a day where the seats were full of spectators and the arena with entertainers.

This is the smaller of the 2 theatres but this area deserves a few minutes of your time. Have a seat, read up about the history (download a guide you can read offline)and let your imagination take you back in time...maybe one of your ancestors attended a show here! My tips for the best experience here: stay somewhere close to the ruins, be at the gate a few minutes before opening time, make your way straight ahead through the turnstiles and you will reach a point where you are not sure which way to go...go left up a little hill, walk straight and you will see it on your right. Be prepared to say wow :-)
