Roman architecture on a grand scale

This is another site within Pompeii ruins which demonstrates how advanced their architecture is. Highly recommend a walk up to this site.

One of the first things you come to in your visit to Pompeii and it sets the scene for a great experience. You can access all points and some great views / photographic opportunities from the top

Marvelous example of a concert venue. Our tour guide said it is still used today due to the excellent acoustics.

You can imagine the activity that was once here. Very impressive and well preserved place to see . Maybe bring it alive again?

Old Rome is more organized than modern Italian. I find Italians don't give priorities to the kids and elderly. They jumped queues with poker faces. Cigarette butts are everywhere in the street. What a messy place.

Part of the whole Pompei Scavi complex this is a must visit. Visit as early as possible so that there are no people and you can really feel the acoustic. I have seen many ancient theaters and even though this is not the biggest or the most impressive one, the fact that it is in Pompei totally changed the perception... More

Even though it's a ruin, you can imagine what it would have been like during the roman ages. Incredible place

Hard to imagine we were in the same place as those in Pompeii prior to the place being buried in volcanic ash in 79 AD. Our tour guide also asked a group member to sing which was a good way to demonstrate the acoustics. We lingered a while after the spiel of the guide so we could appreciate the empty... More

When we stopped here to visit we were lucky enough to hear one of the other visitors sing a beautiful Italian opera song. She stood down on the performance floor, we sat on the bench seats several levels above her and could enjoy hearing every note. The acoustics were great. We acknowledged just how much better the acoustics were 2,000... More

The Grand Theater is what you want to see when visiting a Roman theater. Well preserved ruins and great acoustics.
