The area
Neighbourhood: Navona / Pantheon / Campo de’ Fiori
With three of Rome’s most beloved piazzas within a five-minute walk of each other, the Navona/Pantheon/Campo area may be the prettiest and most picturesque area of the city. Join the beautiful throngs hanging out in cafes, boutiques, art galleries, and wine bars, or peek at a neighbourhood museum or monument. If you want nonstop movida, the streets here are busy with chic bicyclists and Vespa drivers, street vendors, merchants, and locals. There is no rhyme or reason to its winding streets and there's something to see around every corner, so take pleasure in a spontaneous wander.

Florence with Francesca.
Jun 2021 • Couples
I thought of organising this as a birthday present for my girlfriend and it really delivered! I'm confident it was her favourite part of our 3 day trip to Florence. I paid extra for the little jaunt down the local market and I definitely got my money's worth! Every food stall is very happy for you to sample all the tasty morsels of meat and cheese they are selling. Just don't take the Mick!
Anyway, after a hard hours graft perusing the market we retired to Francesca's with all our ingredients. I chose Francesca because her menu is an excellent example of traditional Florentine cuisine. It was 35°C already outside so Fran made sure the A.C. was cranked up and we were well refreshed. Plenty of ice cold water from the fridge and even better, some cool and crisp white wine to drink while mulling over the menus. It wasn't quite 11am but hey! When in... Florence?
We cooked and ate; chicken liver crostini, spinach gnudi and pork alla carnesecca (pork fillet in a Florentine pancetta and lemon sauce.) It was all delicious, if we do say so ourselves! Francesca was a brilliant host and a terrific teacher. We had so much fun, she even whacked out a cheeky bottle of prosecco to celebrate the birthday! Can't recommend her highly enough! Maybe don't plan on doing anything involving any marching straight away afterwards, we were STUFFED...!!

BEWARE: Confirm befor you book
Apr 2019 • Couples
We paid $350 for a private class in a private home with a market visit before the class. The day before the class, we still hadn’t received the confirmation email with details for our class that we had paid for already. I called the day before our class was scheuded, and they finally sent the email, but the email said there was not a market visit included and it was at the cooking school, not at a private home. . We called the tour operator to confirm, and #1, they didn’t speak English (I know not everyone does, but if they didn’t speak English, how would we have been able to do the cooking class??) and #2, they told us that they had another tour scheduled at 1:30pm and were not sure if they would have time to take us to the market. We paid for the market visit... why would that not be included? Why would that not have been communicated at the time of the booking??? Why would that be an “if we have time” sort of thing? Over an hour on the phone on hold with Viator/trip advisor, back and forth, when we could have spent time exploring Roma. Don’t waste your time or money on this.

Market and Lunch with Raffaela #ristomama
Sep 2018 • Friends
Raffaella opened her home and heart to us and it was a special experience.

The food was delicious of course, but learning about her life added another dimension.

We are grateful that she shared an amazing meal at her home, and especially her welcoming personality.

Lovely cooking course

It was a lovely cooking course and ended up just the 2 of us with our chef in her house. It was a good evening and cooked yummy meals which we then ate with Paola.

Wonderful Ristomama Cooking Class
Nov 2017 • Friends
This experience was phenomenal!! Our group of five 20-year-old girls took this cooking class in Florence with Chiara. Out of our 3-month tour of Europe studying abroad, this was one of our FAVORITE experiences! Chiara was so kind and personable, and being in her real home in the city gave us the most authentic experience of Italian culture we could have asked for! Before beginning the lesson, Chiara took us upstairs to show her balcony's breath-taking view of the city. We then went downstairs for the lesson in which we each got to make our own pizza with the freshest ingredients of our choice, all while sharing wonderful conversation with Chiara and her sweet mom! The whole lesson was extremely hands-on and fun, and the finished pizzas from Chiara's own wood-fired oven were delicious! When we registered for the class, we had included that we were doing the experience to celebrate one of our 20th birthdays. We had not expected this at all, but at the end of our lesson and dinner, Chiara surprised us with a birthday cake, complete with candles! I would recommend this company, especially a class with Chiara, to anyone going to Florence!

I have traveled to Italy in the past, but my husband has not. I wanted to do something different while we were in Florence. I'm glad I booked with Antonella, she was fun and taught us how to cook pasta! Her family was kind, and the best part is that we made lifelong friends.

Absolutely wonderful time with Raffaella in Rome!
Oct 2017 • Couples
What a wonderful experience we'll remember forever! I signed myself and my wife up for Raffaella's morning session, with a trip to the market, while visiting Rome on our honeymoon. I signed up online a few weeks in advance and picked a date/time convenient for our travels.

Location - her flat is a 5 minute walk from the Piramide metro station; or about 25m walk from the Colosseum. Ring her unit using the buzzer system and she'll be right down to greet you!

Raffaella was an absolute pleasure. We arrived right on time and she greeted us out front and we took off towards the market, which was about a 15m walk from her flat. On the way, she talked about the neighborhood and it's history, pointing out different sights we would have never otherwise noticed. We arrived at Testaccio Market, grabbed a quick espresso, and started picking ingredients for our meal. Roman artichokes were not in season, but she knew we were interested in learning how to make them as part of the course so she 'settled' for some imported French artichokes (but now we know the difference!). We stopped at produce stands, cheese stands, and her local butcher on the way home.

Her flat is a beautiful walk-up, with a massive terrace and rooftop herb garden. The kitchen was cozy, but very homely with tons of natural light. We prepared a fresh bruschetta, Roman (French!) artichokes, all'amatriciana, saltimbocca and a tiramisu. She opened a nice white wine for us, decided is wasn't the right quality, and decided to open another instead! We prepared all the dishes and then sat on her lovely rooftop terrace to enjoy our meal.

The entire experience actually lasted around 5 hours (~9:30am-2:30pm) and Raffaella gave us some great scenic directions for our walk back to the Colosseum area and even advice for where to catch the best sunsets overlooking Rome.

On our honeymoon we travelled for 3 weeks through France, Rome, Santorini and London - and this experience is definitely one of the highlights!

Amazing time with Fiora in Florence
Oct 2017 • Couples
Very happy we elected to take a class as this was one of our highlights in Florence. Fiora takes great care with making the food and even when the night turned very late she still happily took her time with us. Her husband was a joy to have and when he pulled out the cherry liquor I knew we would remember the night forever. A wonderful time made even better with great company.

Cooking with Raffaella was one of our highlights in Rome!
Sep 2017 • Friends
We were two couples visiting Rome and a cooking class was high on our “to do” list. Actually our husbands were not at all excited about this adventure but went along with it. Raffaella was charming and they agreed it was a great experience and one they really enjoyed. She was so welcoming and we were enchanted with her easy comfortable style of including us in the preparation of an excellent meal. Her apartment atop the building was lovely and she had a beautiful terrace where we could overlook the city. Our meal was fun to prepare and so delicious. We started with tiramisu which chilled while we made bruschetta, an amazing pasta sauce, and saltimboca. Excellent, fresh ingredients were ready for us. Certainly a menu we can prepare in our own homes which is exactly what we were looking for. Raffaella had delicious bread and wonderful wine for us to enjoy with our meal in her warm and lovely dining room. As we chatted with her, we found we had connections with a friend of hers in the states. Would highly recommend this experience to anyone who loves cooking and/or eating Italian. Raffaella was delightful in every way and she provided us with a very memorable cooking adventure.

Amazing experience
Sep 2017 • Couples
The one thing I wanted to do in Italy was a cooking lesson. I did a lot of searching and found many opportunities, but one stood out...Ristomama. The experience is set up to be more personal than sitting in a class and it did not disappoint. We scheduled our class in Florence with Antonella. I cannot tell you enough good things about her, her husband and of course the food. She instructed us in baked and fried pizza, risotto and tiramisu. She made everything seem very easy to do, my hubby and I are confident we can reproduce the food on our own at home. She was easily able to alter the recipe for one of our party members that didn't like tiramisu, because of the coffee.
On top of the great company and food, her home is beautiful and in a stunning setting. I hope to do this again, when I return Italy.
Antonella was funny and kind and made us all feel like part of her family. I would recommend her to anyone!
