We chose this tour over a degustation menu at a fancy restaurant to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and it was a great decision- from meeting our guide Roberta at piazza Mattei- the evening wove around food, drinks and excellent conversation through the backlanes, piazza,s and subterranean vaults in Search of Rome's culinary Delights- what could be more special than... The tour was fantastic, and so was our guide Roberta and our group! We thoroughly enjoyed this company. We loved exploring the different foods, locations and histories. It's literally a feast of the senses. Amazing food, sights, culture and a super fun night out in Rome. Get to know the local fare and flare! One of my fave tours in... More

We were lucky enough to have a small groupand this was led by the guide Roberta. She was so interesting and knowledgeable. We loved the areas that we visited learning about the Jewish ghetto, the campo di fiore, pantheon and Piazza Navarone. Our favourite restaurant was Da pancrazio which has an interesting underground area. Tiramisu zum is yum! Lots of... More

we had a great evening with Roberta and her 2 trainees (sorry I have forgotten their names!) the food and drink was plentiful and the history of the food and the Jewish quarter well explained. it was a really good way to sample a variety of food that is available during your stay in Rome.

This was so worthwhile, a comprehensive history of the area including food and drink traditions, plenty of wine and food (and I'm a big eater!). My wife who is pregnant was also extremely well catered for. Our guide Roberta was very friendly and a wealth of knowledge. I would highly recommend this tour.

We did the Rome food tour with Roberta and it was amazing. We started in a square right outside of the Jewish Ghetto. We started with some aperitifs, wine, and starters. From there we walked through the Jewish Ghetto and tasted fried food, pizza, gelatto, espresso, and a few other things. Not only was the trip delicious, but she also... More

My 24 year old son and I did this tour on Tuesday evening, January 24 with Roberta and two other guests who had signed up for the tour. Roberta was an awesome guide, full of knowledge about the history of the sites we walked by and the restaurants we ate at in addition to wonderful insights about the food. Our... More

Staying in Ghetto

Neighbourhood Profile
Ghetto
The mini-neigbourhood Ghetto holds tight to its reputation as a stand-alone area thanks to its nearly 300-year history as the home to Rome’s Jewish community. Times changed in the 20th century, but the tiny area still retains its mix of tradition, community, and history. Ancient and medieval architectural design frames apartments, bakeries, shops, and restaurants. Friends and families are the pulse of the neighbourhood, keeping company on the Via del Portico d’Ottavia. The Ghetto observes the traditional Jewish Shabbat: businesses close from Friday sundown to Saturday sundown.
