Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Been there in August 30, 2023. (From Canada)
It would have been a nice experience if it worked
The system was down and we were expected to refunded. As of today (back to Canada), September 18, 2023, no refund was made

Not bad and it was something different with the kids. But - it was very bumpy on the cobble stones (so beware if you struggle with car sick movement). Smell was just the same smell but the VR bit was at times disorientating. We did it on first day of arrival in the evening and was just a good way to bounce slowly around the colosseum.

Load of rubbish, if ou like getting car sick this is for you its not augmented reality as implied its just watching TV then not watching TV. Our particular bus was faulty and the gps thought the direction of travel was 90 degrees out so now we drive around Rome in a bus where you cannot see out yet the visuals imply you are going sideways. Sickly. We were offered a refund by emailing them but this has to be done within 15 day for no good reason so that time has passed. everything by this company is a tourist trap and average to poor execution including the circus maximus.

so its not augmented and the 'smells' are literally just one smell like a rose perfume im pretty sure thats not what all of Rome smelled like.

So cool to see full historic renderings if major sites. Fave so much more texture to the sites than the typical tours. Super short and super fun!

To use a football analogy - this attraction was a game of two halves. I’d seen this tour on a UK TV program and wanted to try it during our next visit to Rome. I didn’t pre-book, (having lost a great deal of money on pre-booked attractions during the pandemic) and the web site isn’t exactly user friendly. Yes, there are descriptions in English but click on “Book now” and a whole screed of “small print” appears in Italian. So on our first day back in Rome, we walked past the bus, (parked on the Via dei Fori Imperiali, next to the Altare della Patria), but it was unmanned. We would pass the bus stop many times during our week, so no bother.

On another morning we passed the bus and saw two employees standing near. From them, I discovered that they could not sell you a ticket. You had to buy them from the ticket office, at the entrance to the Forum of Caesar - not the easiest place to find. I did eventually find it and approached the window to buy two tickets. The person in the ticket office wasn’t exactly “tourist friendly” and I speak a little Italian, so woe betide you if you don’t. I heard the words, “Nome e cognome” barked out from behind his mask, (as he thrust a Post-it notepad in my direction). I duly supplied my name and surname and then heard, “Mmmfffail”. I apologised and said, “Mi dispiace. Non hai sentito”, whereupon I heard the same muttering. After asking a third time, he pulled down his mask and bellowed “EMAIL”! So I provided it. Why? I haven’t a clue but if he had pulled down his mask earlier, I would have understood him. He was sitting in an office, behind a fairly airtight looking glass screen, it wasn’t as if I was breathing my “germs” all over him. That was where the bad “half” ends.

Now the good “half”. The tickets got us on to the 1040 bus tour and this was delightful from start to finish. The bus has clever clear-glass OLED screens which, once the blinds are lowered, display beautiful images of what the archaeologists and historians think the monuments looked like during the imperial age. Occasionally the blinds are raised, in order for you to get your bearings, as to where you are in modern Rome. The reconstructions are really very, very impressive and would have been perfect had the reconstructions shown some people, as well as the monuments themselves. Saying that, it was still a fantastic experience and really brought to life those stones that lie seemingly haphazardly in the Forums, Colosseum and Circus Maximus.

Absolutely recommended for the actual tour but the process of getting on it - could stretch your patience.

Not being a simple task, I’ll do my best to tell my story in not too many words. I initially booked a visit to the Mausoleum of Augustus for Feb. 27. Unfortunately, my family and I got Covid just a few days before flying to Rome. After first filling an ‘assistance form’ provided by the ticket company for that attraction and then having to write to ‘Ufficio Cambi Data’, I was finally offered in Mar. 03 ‘the opportunity to come on another day’, having been told to write them back when coming to Rome.
When approaching our new dates for visiting Rome, I wrote them suggesting to ‘change the attraction’ for the Rome VR Bus (also managed by the same ticketing company), only because the Mausoleum of Augustus had closed for visits in the meanwhile. They accepted my suggestion and we settled for reservations for a ride on the VR Bus in Sep. 02 at 18h45 (English language), with us agreeing to pay the cost difference on site before taking the ride, as this new attraction was more expensive than the original one.
Now for the weirdest part – with us already in Rome living days jam-packed of booked attractions to visit, I received a couple of emails in Sep. 01 at 17h50 and 19h30 local time (with some ~24 hours or less notice before our scheduled ride) informing us that ‘the Virtual Reality Bus Tour scheduled for 02 September has been canceled for technical reasons’ and how ‘to request a refund and / or change of date’, ‘strictly no later than 15 days from the cancelled date’. It should go without saying that we were all extremely disappointed, especially my kids who were very eager to have their VR ride through ‘ancient Rome’. Back at home, I wrote them in Sep. 08, explaining that we were totally unable to accommodate a change in our plans with such a short notice and requesting a refund of the original amount we had in credit, as we could not be expected to return to Rome anytime soon. They (always through ‘Ufficio Cambi Data’) flatly refused this request, stating that they didn't decide to cancel the tour – the bus tour company did – they just manage changes of date for them, and also that we were never entitled to any refund in the first place! So much for customer service, this being the end of a sad tale...
Wrapping-up, I still find it hard to believe when a tourism firm prefers to shoot itself in the foot and totally alienate a customer over doing the obvious right thing in this case, which would be to honor a rightful refund. Even though this could still be the most honest operation in the entire World, I would nevertheless suggest you to reach your own conclusions. As I can see it from my absolutely lousy customer experience, try it only at your own risk...

We enjoyed this. It is relatively short in duration but the technology is amazing and gives a good impression of what the ancient city and it’s monuments would have looked like and there are even some hydraulic effects which create an impression of ascending the Palatine . We went on one of English Language tours and there are only so many of these per day. The buses are small but very comfortable. This is an enjoyable and relaxing tour and doesn’t take a large chunk out of your day.

A very negative experience. This organization does not keep its agreements.
I would not recommend anybody to purchase a ticket here. There are so many absolutly wonderfull activities to undertake in Rome, please do not invest your limited time with this organization.
Purchased tickets, but we had to wait an extremely long time for the first bus to go (more than 4 hours). Due to this wait we decided to try to change our plans. Discussed with ticket office, and were told cancelation with refund was not a problem (if this was not possible we would have used the tickets). We followed the instructions in cancelling the tickets. However, the office refuses to refund.
Do not trust these people!
