Come here and get ready to be amazed by this church. It's located in the main square in Trastevere, you could come here, for example, right before having lunch in one of the many places around. Look up when inside, this is something you won't find everywhere.

We walked quite a distance from the Trastevere market to the church, expecting to be wowed by it but instead we were quite surprised that it was a dark and relatively small church. The artworks in the church are quite impressive for a small church though. What is more interesting for me is the piazza outside where the atmosphere is... More

Don´t miss this church. It's one of the earlier churches in Rome, third century. It´s by the main square in Trastevere and it will take you 5/10 min if you want to go quickly. It has great mosaics. the one dedicated to the Virgin of clemency is beautiful. It has some very nice paintings. Even Inocencio II is buried in this... More

Wow, what a surprise inside.Looks rather poor outside, A beautiful church with wonderfully ornate decor and architecture. Slightly off the tourist track but well worth a visit, you will not be disappointed. Surrounded by restaurants and cafe's, great find.

The first time I went there it took my breath away!! There is a lot of gold. More so than many other churches. Not as touristy as not as many people go to Trastevere. It is in the old part of Trastevere and there are some interesting little streets There is a restaurant near the church called Grazia e Graziella.... More

What a treat to visit! We stumbled upon it when visiting the Trastevere area of Rome. Don't let the outside fool you, it is shockingly beautiful inside as well as charming.

A beautiful church in Trastevere. Not the biggest, and may not be as fancy as others but if you enjoy the intricate details of art and architecture in a church, you will enjoy this one. It was not crowded during a weekday afternoon in November, very easy to walk in and take your time (no lines). Plenty of great restaurants... More

This whole area is a lovely insight into the way you would think Rome should be. Lovely quaint streets with lots of lovely cafes. The basilica is a fine example and a must to visit. To get here you will need to cross the Tiber over one of the lovely bridges

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
