It is free to enter and is open from 8.30am to 8pm (Sun to Fri) and 12.30pm to 8pm (Sat) and is worth 10-15 minutes to visit when sightseeing in the area. The church was built between 1595 and 1650 and features a Baroque facade and ornate interior with a latin cross layout, nave with side chapels as well as main altar filled, apse inner dome filled with nice artworks and heavy use of frescos. I particularly enjoyed the ceiling fresco works which you can enjoy by way of mirrors placed near the ground to help you view upwards. Interestingly, it seems the dome was the 2nd highest in the city behind St. Peter's for quite some time.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 30 April 2024

It caught my attention as we passed due to the incredible artwork I saw as someone opened the door. From the outside this is not impressive however inside…wow. Definitely worth visiting as it is free and very beautiful. There were a few homeless people sat on the steps outside however so be mindful of that.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 June 2024

This church is near Piazza Navona and is famous as the scene of the first Act of opera Tosca. There are large frescos behind the main altar and in the ceiling. The church is brightly lit with ample sunlight and is a nice place for a moment of rest and meditation. For an opera lover, this is a must-visit in Rome.Visited August 2024Travelled soloWritten 29 September 2024

This magnificent cathedral has the additional benefit of a great dome. The beautiful dome built by Maderno and inaugurated on 6 November 1622 is inferior in width and height only to that of St. Peter's . The interior of the church is in the shape of a Latin cross with a vast nave flanked by eight high chapels which underline the vertical rhythm of the building. One of them, the Barberini chapel, is also known as the " Tosca Chapel " because part of the plot of Puccini's opera is set here . Two further side chapels overlook the apse, rich in gold and frescoed by Mattia Preti . At the ends of the nave, there are two rare testimonies of the ancient Vatican basilica, transferred here in 1614: the funeral monuments of Popes Pius II and Pius III Piccolomini , the first dating back to around 1470.

The Basilica of Sant'Andrea della Valle is located near the historic center of Rome. The construction work began at the end of the 1500s and was completed in the mid-1600s. The façade is beautiful in Baroque style, the interiors are even more beautiful with their frescoes.

Little known, this basilica is surmounted by the 2nd highest dome of Rome after St Peter, covered with frescoes it is magnificent. A church masterpiece of Mannerism, which impresses with the richness of its interior, its imposing dimensions and the light that penetrates it. Nice surprise, almost empty of tourists

The construction of this magnificent basilica began in 1591, but it took a long time to be completed. It has a marble façade, it is in the baroque style. Its dome is the third highest in the city of Rome. Adorned with frescoes of such beauty that they make you stay for a while admiring them.

Just WOW!
Have you ever looked down to find a $20 bill on the street? That's the feeling I got when I stumbled upon this church. I had no idea what I would find behind these doors. If you want to see one of these most beautiful churches this is it. Worth going out of your way to see it. I was so moved that I lit a few candles for family and friends back home.

The Saint-André-Du-Val basilica. It's for the name in French. The exterior doesn't look like much. This church looks like a church like any other. On the other hand, the interior decor remains very interesting. Magnificent wall paintings. A real Roman church. Baroque style.

Yet another must see Church in Rome, we visited this place by accident when we took cover from the rain. The entry is free and the Basilica is very beautiful, I definitely recommend taking a stop to see it, we spent more then an hour inside looking and admiring the interior.

It would be easy to walk past this gem, because it doesn’t look particularly spectacular from the outside and even the lobby area looks a bit dull.
However, once inside the transformation is amazing and it’s so worth making the effort to visit.
The Basilica is located very close to the fruit & vegetable market and not that far from the Vittorio Emanuele II Monument so the chances are, that if you are walking around Rome, you will be walking close by at some point.
For information, the interior of this Basilica features in Act 1 of Puccini’s Tosca: An escaped convict hides here, and the main male character, the artist Cavaradossi who is working in the church, is accused of helping the convict by Scarpia, the Chief of Police. Now Scarpia has an ulterior motive in arresting Cavaradossi, because he has a love interest in Cavaradossi’s girlfriend, the beautiful Tosca. Spoiler alert: They all die in the end.
