- laura TChicago, Illinois51 contributionsA highlight of any trip! The entire experience of this museum is delightful. The is a capacity limit so advance planning is a must. But that planning means you will actually be able to see these amazing pieces. The layout is great, the coffee shop / cafe is strong, and the Borghese gardens are a pleasure for strolling. (Audio guide is good too!).Visited December 2022Written 6 December 2022
- Wanderlust_TaiwanSan Francisco, California455 contributionsBook ahead and make sure you visitThis is by far the most beautiful galleria. The The Rape of Proserpina and Apollo & Daphne by Bernini are so beautiful. Pauline Bonaparte as Venus Victrix by Antonio Canova is amazing. I could never believe how could marble look so soft. I've never seen so many Caravvagio pieces in one setting. Galleria Borghese is free on the first Sunday of every month. For free ticket, you need to book very very early. Many other museums in Rome are free on first Sunday, and will have a lot more availability.Visited December 2022Written 28 December 2022
- TTTT5Boston, Massachusetts61 contributionsOne of the world's best museumsThe treasures in this collection are awe-inspiring. I hired an art historian to walk me around, which was completely worth it - she knew her way around and I learned a lot about what to look for in paintings and sculptures, and some of the hallmarks of Italian masters like Rafael, Caravaggio and Bernini. This is one of those places that you MUST make a reservation ahead of time for - they only let a small amount of people in at a time, and you have two hours before they want you to leave (everyone gets a colored circle sticker denoting what time they came in that must be worn). Worth the hassle for the masterpieces in the Gallery's collection.Visited December 2022Written 1 January 2023
- Daymond B8 contributionsSo beautiful!I feel not enough people know about this place, which is a shame since it's so beautiful. The park is huge and there's so much to see. Then the galleria is just breathtaking inside. 10/10 would recommend it (I wouldn't if you have kids though, young kids usually aren't able to fully appreciate these things and they make a lot of noise which disturbs the other visitors).Visited October 2022Written 2 January 2023
- yelenaZagreb, Croatia13 contributionsStunningA must do in Rome. Absolutely gorgeous!! From the sculptures, paintings, mosaics and frescoes I don't know what was more stunning. Make sure to book your ticket in advance. It's located in a beautiful park that you can stroll through after you're done.Visited February 2022Travelled with familyWritten 14 January 2023
- Carol C32 contributionsAmazing artThis was a 40 minute walk from our hotel in an absolute downpour but, boy, was it worth it! The art is fantastic and to see six Caravaggios was out of this world. Having said that, the organisational side could do with some improvement. We arrived a half hour before our timed ticket but were unable to enter the gallery any earlier as the scanner would not accept the barcode. However, the attendants told me that if I had printed the tickets, they could simply have let us in. There should be some sort of override as this is the 21st century and electronic tickets are the norm in most places. Also, as mentioned, there was a deluge on the way. When you arrive, you have to put umbrellas and bags (any bag larger than a useable clutch) into a cloakroom but they wont accept coats! So we and everyone else in there had to carry wet winter coats round the whole gallery and this got pretty tedious after more than two hours. Also, there is not enough seating once in the gallery. As stated, the art is amazing and you have to go, but lets make it a bit more pleasurable for the visitors.Visited January 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 January 2023
- Mel3 contributionsMust see - Bernini sculptures and fabulous museumThis museum requires a visit. We have gone twice, both times on guided tours, which I recommend. The Bernini sculptures alone are worth the price of admission. If you go alone - do some reading beforehand so you know what to look out for as there is so much to see - the palace, the sculptures and the paintings. After visiting the museum, stroll the extensive grounds.Visited January 2023Written 31 January 2023
- Piotr4 contributionsAverage for a non art connoisseurI'm just reviewing to let you know this is not a must for everyone. If you're into Roman/Renaissance art sure this will be a blast. If you're just a tourist curious of the world and you've seen Vatican Museum or Louvre this will be just another gallery. If you've already seen Vatican and have nothing else to do, sure - the museum is surrouded by beautiful gardens and a zoo, so there's places to go in vicinity. We skimmed through it in 40 minutes and were 'yeah, that's nice'.Visited February 2023Written 8 February 2023

Quite astonishing place and an absolute must-do. The Bernini sculptures are astonishing and the Caravaggio paintings were a highlight. Nice cafe for after and lovely walk in the park away from the bustle of Rome. Even my teenager enjoyed it!Visited February 2023Travelled with familyWritten 18 February 2023

We would love it if the museum people offered private guided tours since you can ask and get the time to develop a passion for the masterpieces of art. Simone was a great ambassador and teacher. At the end of the tour, we could feel how the creating artists set up the artwork — a great time.

What a heavenly piece of architecture populated by such gorgeous art. The statues stand magnificently as if almost alive. And I love how there are several manageable rooms that allow you to take to focusing on each piece. From floor to ceiling, every room is so well appointed. And many of the ceilings are truly remarkable. As well, they limit the number of visitors so as to give you breathing room as a guest. A must see. Thank you so much.

Wow! One of the best galleries I have visited. Amazing art and a rare opportunity to see some pieces of art first hand. We got the tour guide which is definitely worth it. they provide a lot of great information which is paramount to the experience. You can see some Caravaggio art work along the many other spectacular art. Also, visit the cafeteria on the lower level for some delicious snacks.

We were really looking forward to our Galleria Borghese visit this November as we are both art historians, but it was not to be. We purchased our tickets online through the gallery website and went at the appointed day and time with our digital tickets. The vendor has said that there was no need to print. Nevertheless, we had to wait in a line to get our printed tickets. We showed our pdfs to the staff person who after a bit of trouble printed out a ticket. We assumed this covered both of us because it was the only one she gave us. At the entrance we were told we had to go back to get the second ticket, so we did. There the same staff person and her assistant insisted they had given us two tickets and refused to budge despite our arguing our case. My husband even offered to buy a new second ticket, but we were told they were sold out for the day. Eventually we gave up and left having lost the price of two tickets but more importantly the chance to see a wonderful collection. It was very disappointing and cast a damper on the rest of our time in Rome.

A not too be missed museum in Rome. But it is essential to purchase your tickets in advance. There is a strict admittance policy that is printed on your ticket with a maximum time limit in the museum of 2 hours. The paintings on the upper floors are beautiful but for me the highlight was the sculptures on the lower floor. The museum is located in a beautiful, tranquil park. There is also a very nice cafe in the museum.
I highly recommend a visit to this museum.

Don't worry too much about the two hour window, they will shoo you out, but not to the minute. There are some wonderful pieces, but not much labeling.

We took an English guided tour with Isabella.
She is a wonderful tour guide, and explained how Bernini tells a story in sculpture, and how, by looking at the left side, then front, then right side of Bernini's sculptures, we can see how the story unfolds.
The museum is IMHO the most important thing to see in Rome.
Be aware that the Borghese strictly limits the number of tickets per day, and that each ticket has a specific entry *and* exit time.
In general, the sessions are 9am-11am, 11am-1pm, 1pm-3pm, 3pm-5pm, 5pm-7pm.
When you order tickets online, you receive an email voucher which must be exchanged for an actual ticket when you get to the museum, and you must pick up the ticket at least (i think) 10 minutes before the session starts, or they will give away your ticket to someone in line.
Ticket vouchers are available online, but only the next month or so is available at any given time, so you need to buy them as soon as they become available.
Print off the email voucher and bring that to the museum, and don't wait on the line - ask a docent where you can trade in your voucher for the ticket.
The guided tour is well worth the extra few euros.
The tour lasted about an hour and a half, and we had an extra half hour to walk around.
Picture taking is allowed but no flash.

The Borghese Gallery is not only a beautiful villa but, surrounded by wonderful gardens. The Villa is filled with sculptures and paintings that should not be missed by Art Lovers. I would recommend that you purchase a ticket in advance. The Gallery was sold out the day that we were there. When you purchase a ticket, you are given a time to see the gallery. You have a two hour time limit. After seeing the gallery, you should enjoy the gardens.

How far in advance can one buy tickets for the Galleria Borghese through the official ticket service? Thank you.

Through the official site (beniculturali) it is up to one month in advance. You can get tickets earlier by going through a third party site but will pay a premium. However, even in peak season there is usually availability within a few days so there is no real need to do that

I have two tickets for a guided tour in October that I purchased from the gallery directly. Unfortunately, I have to cancel the trip due to serious illness.
The tickets have no names on them and I want to give them to my nephew who will be in Rome. Will he run into problems?

Probably not. Of course, you could show up on that day and see if there are any no shows. They will typically re-distribute any tickets for visitors who do not show up at the designated time. But most likely, you would just end up waiting around and not be able to enter.
Are babies allowed ? And can I take baby stroller?

This is Paula answering... I think the best thing to do is ask your questions directly with the museum or a travel consultant. Personally speaking, the Borghese museum is not for children. Waiting time varies for all attractions. Always better to have a good tour guide. I suggest RomeCabs. They were absolutely awesome! We did a private tour with them and our driver John was outstanding in every way! He took us to places not usually seen by tourist, which I loved!!! I hope this helps...

I wouldn't wait to purchase tickets. There is a capacity limit for the Borghese Gallery which is strictly followed. The tickets for the gallery routinely sell out in advance. If you wait, you will need some luck. The gallery will re-sell the tickets of no-shows - so a few tickets are typically available on the day of visit. But there will probably be others trying to buy these tickets as well and you could end up wasting a lot of time waiting to see if you can buy tickets and come away empty-handed.

Do they require ID to enter? If so, would US driver license work or only the actual passport? Would like to avoid carrying those around if possible. Thank you!
