The full name of the church is The Church of the Most Holy Name (Santissimo Nome) of Mary at the Trajan Forum and it is located in front of the Column of Trajan and next to the church of Santa Maria di Loreto. Actually, these two churches have very similar domes, but the interior of this one is far more... More

The 'Church of the Most Holy Name of Mary' is located very close to Trajan's Column in the northwestern end of the ancient Rome area. The church definitely stands out when walking around Trajan's Forum and is worth 10 minutes inside where you'll find many colors of marble and lots of gilding. The dome ceiling isn't painted but has some... More

This area contains quite a few sights that are not on Rome's must see list but while in this area make sure to look into all these great spots.

Don't let the overflow of impressions of the Colosseum and the archaeological sites of the all those "Foro" stop you from stepping into the beautiful church Ss. Nome di Maria, at the top of the excavations, just next to Trajan's Column, to get a breather in the quiet atmosphere and and admire the wonderful decorations. See my pictures. To be... More

It is near the Unknown Soldier Monument, free as most Rome's attractions. Wikipedia : The Church of the Most Holy Name of Mary at the Trajan Forum (Italian: Santissimo Nome di Maria al Foro Traiano, Latin: Ss. Nominis Mariae ad forum Traiani) is a Roman Catholic church in Rome, Italy. This church should not be confused with the church Santissimo... More

The Santissimo Nome di Maria al Foro Traiano Church stands across the Trajan's Column and is an excellent spot for a short break if your walking around Rome sightseeing. This church is a Roman Catholic church with many pieces of art work to see nestled within a nice ambience. A good way to kill 15 minutes on your way around... More

Beware of young girls/women pickpockets operating in this area. They wait for victims to pass by and move in from behind. They are very persistant and at it all day. They can be seen with infants strapped to their chest, some even breastfeeding in the street. Be VERY cautious in this area!

While on your visit to the forum, the coliseum, or Piazza Venezia, don't forget this gem, too. With a main portal looking out toward these three historical places, the Ss. Nome di Maria adds to the array of history as a tribute to the feast of the same name the feast of the Holy Name of Mary introduced by Pope... More
