The dome is absolutely stunning (we were lazy and took the lift up, but well worth it). You can walk around and admire the cathedral and the view and even go outside for fantasics views of the city

There is a lift to go up the Cupola, but it takes you up to some level only. What is worth the effort is to go further upstairs. At some point you will see that the corridors are becoming more and more narrow, just for...More

The only views in the world you can compare it with is the top of Eiffel. It is symmetrical and thus spectacular. After all the security check as soon as you get inside the building, on the right hand there’s the entry to the cupola...More

This is well worth the climb. The ticket office is upstairs and to the right. Tickets are 10 euro for the elevator (which you are still required to climb 200 stairs to the top) or 7 euros for stairs only (approximately 300 additional). We took...More

This is definitely worth the climb-- however, you need to know what you're getting yourself into. I went on a 90 degree day and bought the elevator ticket (elevator is 10 euro, stairs is 8 euro) because the heat was unbearable. However, no one tells...More

There are 550 odd steps to reach at the top of the St. Peter's Dome. Though there is a facility of paid usage of elevator till half way but all the effort taken is totally worth it. One can view the entire city from the...More

Worth the climb if taken by lift and then the last about 300 steps. Just a pity that at the top there is not so much space!

You need to buy a ticket in the Church. I bought one which I need to climb the stairs on my foot, cost me €8 but you will really get so tired with this so I strongly recommend you to pay €2 more so€10 and...More

Everything has been said about the cupola. It's something I would not do twice. There is a a nice view from the top and that's about it. Classic touristic spot - long queues and lots of people everywhere. It's nice but not spectacular.

There is not a place in Rome that rivals the views from that of the dome at St. Peter’s. It costs 10 euros to go up without the lift ( I recommend doing the 550 or so steps so you appreciate the view more, plus...More

Sorry I'm so late with the answer. It's open 8 - 6 in summer and 8 - 5 in winter. It certainly would be a spectacular view at night if it were open. Peter Wynd
