The museum is fantastic! It is only open from 4-6pm, but it is free! And there is a really well done 10 min video of the history of the parade. It is not that big, so you can go through it relatively quickly and learn all about this very treasured and sacred past time of Campobasso. Highly recommended.

The museum is of interest to people who have experienced Holy Week (days prior to Easter) . The unique religious practices of southern Italy are a bridge to earlier religions of her earlier colonizers, Arabs, Greeks, Carthaginian, etc. if you haven’t experienced Holy Week there, the photos offer images of the unusual observances.

While you can visit the "misteri" museum year round, the real attraction of the "misteri" in Campobasso is the annual procession which I had seen decades ago when I was very young. It is the largest and best attended feast in Campobasso. This year I was able to finally see again the procession on Sunday June 18 and also savour some street food and do some "bancarelle" shopping which are just two side-activities of this religious, popular and traditional procession. The procession of the "mysteries" is three centuries old and every year on Corpus Domini Sunday, good weather or bad weather, the procession comes out and parades through the main streets of Campobasso centre. Thirteen allegorical floats, transported by pallbearers with live characters:children, old people and adults transform themselves saints, angels and demons (the harnesses are hidden from the costumes) and seem suspended in the void. Each and every float is truly admirablle particularly on a sunny warm day.
