Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The VR tour of medeival Bologna was great; very well done. Enjoyable (even for a 58-year-old like me, and I'm sure kids would appreciate it even more) and informative. Choose the longer version (25 minutes).

Note that the same experience is also available at the Museum of the History of Bologna (for a higher charge I believe as it includes entrance to the whole museum).

Note: At the latter location there are also experiences about the Roman era and 18th century (canals) in the city. I did these too (at extra charge) and would recommend them (the short versions) somewhat, in the aforementioned order.

Returning to this attraction -- the Time Machine museum -- it also has a show called "Dante's Inferno" which was sort of grisly but entertaining enough. (I'd choose the short version.)

Note: This museum is very small, centrally located near the main tower.

Many thanks for the compliments, our audience is truly transversal... from 9 to 99 years old... children have fun and adults can also appreciate the quality and historical reliability of our 3D reconstructions. It is true that La Macchina del Tempo is holding a collaboration with the Museum of the History of Bologna until the end of the year with experiences specifically related to the city

The place was not easy to find! Address on TripAdvisor is incorrect so use website details. Then it's a couple of rooms in a very nice palazzo. Experience was pretty low tech, although interesting.

We apologise for the inconvenience of the wrong address, we will take care of it as soon as possible. VR technology with Oculus Quest headsets is still the most advanced for this kind of experience

Entering with high expectations well on time, we first found nobody at reception and then 15 min after the time slot were let in by a guy who made no contact with us, but just almost inaudible explained how we had to use our controllers. Not much fun in his job. That was clear. Then it began and the devices were not working properly or the language or sound had to be adapted … four people with 1 employee. Finally it was running.

It is Supposed to be a 2021 Virtual reality experience but the digital quality is from 10 years back. All new games on devices at our home have a higher quality and nothing came true like ‘you are guided into the world of the 1st century in Bologna’. It was so unreal and (I am really sorry to say) not catching, that we now were happy it only lasted for 25 min.

Rather disappointed about our 4 x 18€ per ticket !!! we left the building. Great idea but take a look at professional institutes like Disney or Omniversum movies to give your cliënts a real sensation of being in a different time zone… this is 1990 technology

Dear customers, we’re very sorry for the inconvenience. Unfortunately COVID has been impacting the amount of visitors we welcome in a pretty serious way, and consequently we’ve been facing difficulties scheduling shifts with a balanced number of employees. We are trying to fix this issue. Again, we’re sorry for what happened. Our museum was affected negatively by COVID, just like many other establishments. As you can see from many other reviewers, this is not the standard we’re accustomed to, either technology-wise nor as far as customer care is concerned.

Something new and different than usual, we enjoyed it. You come to the room, you get your VR set and you are ready to explore. The best part - flying :)

Interesting Virtual Reality experience and informational about the history of Bologna around 900 years ago. Focus is the system of towers that were residences as well as defensive structures. Highlight flying around above the city.

Thank you very much for your kind words. Our experiences are an example of edutainment: we do highlight the educational purpose of our reconstructions, but we're all in for a little fun as well. We do hope to see you soon again for our upcoming experiences

Something different to try during your stay, there are 4 experiences that you can enjoy which can take you back in time to medieval Bologna or egypt. Me and my 13 year old daughter thoroughly enjoyed the experience. You have 2 options of a short session (14 mins) at a cost of €12 or the long session (25 mins) at a cost of €18. We did the long session and it was a great way to see what things would of been like back in medieval time which puts some of the sights into context, overall a very good experience

It was my first time to try the virtual reality. We took the Bologna Medieval -tour and it was great. The best part of it was in the end, when you could fly over the city. It was so realistic. You should not miss this!

Thank you! We're really glad you enjoyed the flying segment of the Medieval Tour: not only it's a lot of fun, but it's also very informative since you get to discover whatever happened to the 88+ towers that used to be in town. We do hope to see you soon again in the near future!

I highly recommend the longer tour. This was my first experience with a VR museum and it was really fun. I have a little gasp when a horse ran me over! At the end you can jump off a tower (it’s not scary) and fly over the city. The young man at the museum was very friendly and helpful. Our best non-food experience in Bologna.

Thank you very much for your kind words! Being run over and flying above the city are some of the most exciting parts in the medieval experience, and we're very glad you enjoyed them. We do hope to see you soon again for our upcoming journeys to the past.

We went here with our three boys (10, 8 and 6). Everybody really enjoyed it - the controls are very intuitive and there is a huge amount to explore and interact with. In the longer medieval experience there is an opportunity to climb up the tower - don’t dawdle too much! It helped us appreciate the relationship between what we can see of Bologna now and in the past. Helpful and friendly staff.
