The 7 Churches Complex - Unmissable
The basilica of Santo Stefano encompasses a complex of religious buildings and courtyards, located on Piazza Santo Stefano. This was my favourite experience in Bologna we visited twice. Note it is closed from 12.30 - 2.30 for lunch. Entry is free. There's a wonderful shop/museum where you can buy artefacts made in Jerusalem, I bought a long sought after Olive wood nativity set. sette chiese / seven churches complex showcases the building of multiple religious buildings dating back to the 13th C. There's a real sense of time here, allow a few hours to take it all in. You can get a guide in different languages inside for 1 Euro.

    Wonderful historical churches
7 churches in one area. All have been added throughout the ages and include crypt, cloisters as well as traditional churches. Ancient buildings are very interesting. You can buy a short information booklet telling you what you are looking at for couple of euros- do this as the information boards are not good for English. My favourite was the copy of the Church of Holy Sepulchre from Jerusalem- wonderful. There’s a little museum and gift shop. Lovely way to spend an hour out of the sun.

Interesting structure with lots of different components
This is a really interesting structure with a series of churches of different ages interconnected. There was a nice display that helps put the pieces together and each area was a visual treat. They also have a really nice shop. Highly recommend!

    Amazing place of sanctuary
Fabulously impressive place to visit. It consists of not just one Church but 7 religious dwellings, all in one location. Each dwelling has its own significance. An extremely quiet and spiritual setting away from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist areas. Well worth a visit.

Pretty set of historical church buildings and its free.....
A really set of old church building blended together. Its free (with a donation), has a museum and shop so definitely worth a visit. Its set in a pretty and small piazza. Check timings for entrance as part of it is a working church. Spend the time (1-2 hours) to walk around and take in the history, plus enjoy a coffee in the lovely piazza - before or after.

Beautiful collection of churches, all in slightly different styles of interesting architecture. Also has a cute shop selling both religious items and organic toiletries and food gifts.

An unusually designed building from the outside gives it a plainer look, but the interior makes up for it with stunning architecture. The tall pillars particularly impressed. Added bonus of there being no charge to enter.

Was a decent place to visit. Very old church, nothing inside preserved the greatest. But this is a step back in time to see what life was like hundreds of years ago. It's a good 30 to 45 mins of your day

Great basilica to see and explore, from outside looks like a nice petit basilica but when you walk through the doors you start to understand the scale of this complex 7 churches in total in the grounds.

Should be high on your list to do as this basilica has so much history to it.
