Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Sightseeing wasn’t on my plan whilst in Modena but things happen for a reason! I stumbled upon this area whilst seeking out gelato!!! And I’m so glad I did it truly is beautiful and I’m gutted I just didn’t sit there and admire it, as compared to piazza maggoire in Bologna this is peaceful and in my opinion more beautiful!

The large square of Modena is actually very large and represents the historical and geographical center of the city. Some important Modena monuments such as the cathedral and the archbishopric overlook it. And from the square you can also admire the Ghirlandina, or the bell tower of the cathedral. It's a shame that not the façade of the cathedral but one of its long sides overlooks the square.

This beautiful cobbled square is dominated by the impressive Duomo and Ghirlandina. The other buildings that surround the square have lovely arches and various bars

This is your typical Italian Piazza, cobble stoned, surrounded by wonderful architecture, slightly dirty which for me adds to the rustic beauty that I love about italy.
The piazza is surrounded by cafe bars, restaurants and shops. We visited during a public holiday so during lunch and evening times it was very bustling but we also made use on our first day of the in between time where the streets are practically empty and it really helped us find some streets which would have been difficult when it was busy.
We stopped at various cafe bars for a quick espresso and they were around eur1 each, but do your research on restaurant's and trattoria's as there are some tourist traps in this area.

Modena’s piazza grande is a huge square with a beautiful cathedral. It is also surrounded by hundreds of restaurants and shops both in the square and surrounding it.

I was a bit surprised when I first saw the tower of this cathedral. It is leaning slightly to one side. It is not as serious as the other tower in Pisa perhaps due to the support of the cathedral building next to it but it is pretty obvious from a distance. The heavy structure of the tower on a narrow base seems to be the main reason for site sinking. Having said that, the Cathedral is a traditional Roman architecture product. It has a history of almost a thousand years and is listed as UNESCO historic site. The square in front of the Cathedral is spacious for taking photos. There are many cafes and restaurants where we can relax and enjoy the afternoon.

Historical cathedral, Middle Age masterpiece of architect Lanfranco, Romanesque style. Also the square is wonderful, in particular the bar in the colonnade, Highly reccomended.

Piazza Grande is the center of Modena. Its a very small town with a cute square. The Duomo and Ghirlandina tower occupy the center of the square and there is a tourist information center there as well. The walk to the center of town is really easy but you can take a cab there as well. It was a sunny afternoon and we had a great visit to Modena.

It is a typical Italian square but if you like these, you will like this as well.
The area boasts a wide variety of small bars, cafes, restuarants and designer shops (of course).
If you are in Modena, you ought to see it.

this cathedral Duomo de Modena is really beautiful and full of story ... a total Roman Style white color inside you can feel history no matter if you are catholic or not. The art design inside is a following of discovery any feet is full of amazing corner the "cripta" giving me a strange and beautiful feeling and touch my soul..... outside attached the Duomo there is an amazing tower that quite leaning called Ghirlandina ... I suggest to visit the square where Duomo is placed at night for his terrific landscape.
