We really liked our visit, the scenery around the factory was beautiful. We enjoyed the walk through the factory and tasting as well. We went by car on our own, booking of the tour was quite easy, in the morning we send msg via WhatsApp and got booking sane day at 11:30,great.

Not much of a tour other than seeing the various rooms. Owner is very nice. The quality of the Parma ham is mediocre. Too salty versus some of the other providers…

My family went for a tour and tasting at La Perla. Not only do you get to see the beautiful country of Parma Italy driving to La Perla you get to experience a farm that makes one of the best Parma prosciutto. Silvia led us through a lunch of prosciutto, parmesan reggiano, bread and wine from the region. We also had a plate of beautifully prepared ravioli. La Perla is a must stop for any cook or someone interested to see the time and effort that goes into one of the best prosciutto.

It takes a while to get here but the scenery in great and the view out over the valley below is beautiful. We had a lunch on arrival at a large communal table, (we were a large group) which was very good. The service staff was excellent in taking care of us. Following that we dressed in gowns and caps so we could take a quick tour of the plant. We were led by a wonderful guide, Silvia, who told us all about the process and aging that needs to be done. We viewed many shoulders of pork hanging on racks waiting to reach the perfect age. Interesting to be sure. If you have the time be sure and stop.

We visited La Perla as one stop on our escorted group tour. The owner greeted us warmly and showed us the various drying and curing stages of his hams which are the back legs & thighs only of the pigs. Very interesting if you’ve never been exposed to anything like this before.

It’s not the most in-depth tour and it may not be considered by many to be their idea of a ‘tour’, but more of a walk-through of various rooms that vary in size and temperature followed by a question & answer session with the owner.

It was an eye-opener into the business of Parma ham. Loved seeing the horse bone used to test the readiness of the dried meat. Wish we could have seen it being used though!

After the tour, we were treated to generous sampling platters upstairs complete with bottled water and wine. And we had time to browse the gift shop and make purchases after.

There were good clean washrooms and a guestbook for signing. We noticed the newspaper articles on the wall, one featuring the owner Carlo posing with Guy Fieri who had visited prior. It is very nice for Carlo and his lovely daughter (the marketing and PR brains behind the business) to have Mr. Fieri’s endorsement as it speaks to the quality of the meats, cheeses and other items they produce.

We not only enjoyed a great time here; we’ve got some cool photos dressed in sanitary food gear for our Christmas card!

If you’re in the area, make sure Carlo’s place (da Carlo sala degustazione) is on your tour wish list.

This is a poor excuse for a factory tour of any sort. I have been to many production factories all over the world. To have someone stand there and say this is what we do and show you a couple of hundred hams hanging is far from learning/seeing the process of proscuitto making. A really poor excuse for an educational tour.

When I think of Parma, I think of ham...prosciutto to be exact! We went to the factory to check it out. We were not with a tour, but had called earlier to see if there was going to be an English speaking tour given that day. We were in luck! There was an English speaking bus tour arriving at 11:30...we arrived early and waited. We spoke to the young woman in charge and were told that the bus was going to be late and that she would take us on the tour with another young American couple. This was truly lucky, because she was the owner's daughter and what a delightful experienced guide she was! She was so passionate about her family business and was so knowledgeable about every step of Parma ham production! This was a tour we will never forget!
After the tour, we had lunch in their restaurant...plenty of ham, cheese, and outstanding wine! We ordered a dish of homemade ravioli...special of the day...just delicious!
The best way to describe our experience of that day is nothing short of fantastic! Be sure to visit this family owned Salumificio!

This is the La Perla family business creating super quality Parma hams in the foothills of the Quinzano region. On arrival, you'll be given some protective clothing to ensure that the hams are not contaminated, and then you'll get to tour the facility following the process of curing the hams. Our guide was also part of the family business and you could sense the passion in their work. After the tour, you'll be seated at long tables on which there are fully loaded plates of the various ham products to enjoy (plus some Parmesan cheese and LOTS of wine). There's also a small shop if you wish to buy some of the products. We really enjoyed this tour. Informative and great fun.

This was an optional excursion while on a Globus tour and we were glad we went. We toured the facility and saw the various steps taken to produce Parma ham. We then had dinner in their dining room on site and were each treated to a full plate of prosciutto as an appetizer and a nice meal. As always, there was plenty of wine to go around. I recommend this as a stop if you are in the area. I'm guessing that reservations are necessary.

A family business, La Perla, is nestled in the foothills outside Parma - free tours are offered in Italian but often a fellow visitor can help translate. Afterward DO stay for the lunch - get the pasta course which is a bit extra. A lovely and informative visit
