Aside from the sunken mosaic floor which really does have goldfish swimming around, the alabaster windows in the church are quite gorgeous. Free and not crowded.

We queued to go down the steps and look through the little window into the crypt. The goldfish swimming around were a surprise. The church felt nice, a true place of worship, not too ornate.

The flooded crypt here is worth a look. Apparently subsidence has caused this area to fill with water. We saw goldfish swimming about. Dark and a bit creepy but I have never seen anything like it before.

This is amazing church with the Ronan cistern under the alter and the place where Dante's body originally laid. Walk though then to Dante's tomb

I love this place. It isn't well known but sums up the history of the city: mosaics under water. It doesn't take long to see them though so plan for a very quick visit.

There are plenty of gret mosaic and church viewing in Ravenna such that I would only do this if you have plenty of time.

A dark place with a stunning cellar. The cellar is filled with water and fish. With one euro you can switch the light on in the cellar to see the beautiful mosaics beneath the water. I would recommend this as a short visit.

There are precisely two reasons to come here. One, this is where Dante's funeral was held (for those of you lit freaks.) Two, turn the light on in the crypt space under the high altar. There's water over a Roman floor with pillars--lovely. Worth a...More

Breathtaking in all its aspects. Just bathe in the peace and quiet and workmanship of aeons ago. My second visit to Ravenna 30 years apart and everything is thankfully just as well preserved.

It's certainly not the most spectacular of Ravenna. But it's an interesting place, full of history and...fish. Yes, you got that right. The ancient crypt, with mosaic on the floor, is now inundated and teeming with gold fish. It;s a most unusual sight. It's close...More
