Old, brick factory, nearly unknown to the younger generation and in the industrial area of Trieste/ Trst. It is nothing special when you look at architecture. On the other side it is like Berlin wall and Auschwitz. Each wall and space is witness of dark history. Place was the only concentration and extermination fascist Nazi camp in Italy and in... More

This is a relic of a tarrible past, the place has been preserved for thememory of future generations and the modern architecture that integrates with the surviving original buildings that the nazis tried to blow up to conceal the proofs of their cruelty just add pathos to the experience. A must see for all who come to Trieste

... because if you visit on a Sunday or a holiday you will probably meet a lot of people here busy taking pictures and talking. You will need time and silence to take in the sombre story of the old Rice Factory that became a concentration camp and a grave for so many people.

Worth the bus ride to here. An education, to be sure. They have preserved many things nicely, and their museum is excellent--many examples, pictures, films, etc. Free, but be sure to donate to upkeep. Never Forget.

Although the overall experience isn't so chilling like when visiting nazi camps in Poland, the visit to this National monument (detailed exhibition and surviving buildings - some parts of the original compound have been blown up by the retreating Germans while the others haven't survived post war urban developers) offers a good insight into nazi atrocities committed in Trieste and... It was the only concentration camp on Italian soil with killing facilities. It is difficult to accept. Requires a certain level of maturity to do the visit both for the local or the tourist

This is the memory of only one camp for Jewish & anti-Nazi in Italy! When you come to Trieste, you should come here!

Despite when the nazis fled the camp destroyed the crematorium and the most incriminating areas, and its not an usual detention camp (it was designed as a rice-husking facility) you are able to see the cells and other parts and you can figure it out how it could be that horror. It was the only nazi camp in Italy in... More

Despite its proximity to central Trieste, you will not find many other people at San Sabba, which was both a detention center and concentration camp during World War II. The exhibits are unadorned and stark. From this place, many detainees were simply put on the train to Auschwitz. One of the comments in the visitors' book, which all are asked... More

A place everyone should see to remember the cruelty that is inherent to the human race. Although many traces of the true purpose of the facility have been destroyed or loss, the visit is still a haunting and truly touching experience. Having a guide may be useful to have a complete picture.
