I think the most beautiful when you visit Corniglia are stairs leading from the station to the town. The climb takes about 15 minutes, is very tiring but worth it. To climb out can take a bus from the station but has no charm :)

We took the train and started towards town. A few hundred yards later we encountered the bottom of la scalinata. What a great staircase. It probably took us 10 minutes to get to the top and that's because we stopped at each landing to admire...More

My wife & I climbed these stairs after our hike from Manarola to Corniglia, which made this a bit more difficult. Wouldn't be a problem if you climb these fresh though as the slope is not too steep and are quite even with plenty of...More

First of all, I'm a heavy guy and almost 50 years old, and I did it with ease. My wife, who isn't good with stairs, almost passed out at the top. But we walked up and then down, and I loved it. My wife hated...More

These are steps which you need to climb up on the way from the station to the town and climb down on the way from the city centre to the station. So people who are planning to put up in Corniglia pl be aware that...More

when we got off the train we noticed people getting on a bus but did not know why until we realized all the steps we had to climb-it was exhausting. The village is definitely worth the climb though-each village of the CT is so unique....More

These stairs make a great reason to visit Corniglia early in your visit. You do not want to hike up these after walking around all day. They are not particularly steep and have enough space for traffic in both directions; this is the primary way...More

If you go to Corniglia by train then you'll go up to the village via the Scalinata Lardarina. It's a long series of zigzags that take you from the station level to village level. I had a heavy camera bag and I'm in my 60s,...More

This was quite a climb for mid-July. I enjoyed it, being in somewhat decent shape. I tried to count the steps, but lost count somewhere at the mid-point, so I can't tell exactly how many there were. Several people in my group came up with...More

Nope, the stairs are not relevant from the architectural point of view. Neither they offer outstanding views - you will find better at the top when you pass the small church close to the cliffs. But they introduce something really, really important - a barrier....More
