Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Beautiful views and countryside but be prepared for a strenuous hike 1000 ft up & then down. No hand rails in places & steep steps going down. Bring water & a walking pole if you need it. My husband & I are in pretty good shape but weren’t prepared for the steep upward hike but we made it & it was worth the effort. Took the trains to the other villages which were great. Remember to get a same day ticket to do the hike, trains & buses & get them validated at the train station as you may run into problems. Ciao

It is in Monterosso, one of the five villages of Cinque Terre. The path to the figure is closed, but you can get close enough to take some nice photos.

If all you have seen is the Italian or French Riviera, you'd be ok with the beach. But if you have ever walked bare feet on a sandy beach and were expecting that, this would be disappointing and you'd ask yourself, why you even made the effort.
This is exactly how I felt when my husband and I, came from Riomaggiore here. The trains which are often delayed was super late.
The statue is a sight for maximum of 2 minutes. After that, the charm wears off. But if you're in town, don't leave without checking it out.

It's a lovely beach under the statue, quieter than the surrounding beaches and clean sand and water that has a good amount of shallow, calmer water for children to play in.
The statue is really quite interesting and there used to be an arm holding out a trident to the sea until it was destroyed in a storm.

Great destination for a walk. The rock sculpture is impressive, the surrounding area has some great little places to grab some food or drink and the town is exactly what I expected. The town was historic with a small resort footprint, great place to spend a night or two!

This enormous statue of Neptune is one of the many wonders you will find at Monterosso al Mare. It carries a beautiful and sad history dating back to WW2 when the city was bombarded. Its iconic!

We visited all five of the Cinque Terre villages, with Manarossa being the last one. Having read that Il Gigante is almost a symbol of Manarossa, I decided we had to see it. What a monument to man's ingenuity, that in 1910 they could have built something like this hanging off a steep cliff. So glad that there is also a picture of the original before it was damaged during WWII. To see the statue well, you will need to walk down a pebble strewn beach, so be sure to wear shoes. Because of it's history and uniqueness, it's worth the effort to see it. If you are walking from the train station, you will need to exit to your right and go down the beach quite a way. However, it is level walking and easy to do. You will pass some lovely villas and vegetation on your walk. Most of your walk will be on a sidewalk.

This huge statue at the end of Monterosso is interesting to see. It is a short walk to the end of town. We wanted to climb up near the statue, but it looks like it is on private property and it was gated upon our arrival. There were a few other tourists trying to get in the gate when were were there as well. The hours the gate is open isn't publicized.

Took a gentle walk up to Il Gigante and had a look back at beautiful Monterosso. Decided to keep walking uphill for an even better view...and kept walking in the direction of Levanto on the marked walk. It became clear that this walk was something quite special. It was a steep climb up to the top of the mountain (one hour) but the views were beyond spectacular. There is then a relatively gentle decent into Levanto (a further two hours) through beautiful forest trails with again spectacular views out to the sea. Levanto is not a bit resorty with a lot of beaches and lots and lots of sunbathers...the train back to Monterosso only takes 15 mins!! This was my favorite walk of all the treks between the five (six!!!) towns and I can't understand why this particular walk is not promoted more...and by the way it is free.

How long will the statute be under refurbishment?

¿Saben si sigue en restauración? ¿Merece la pena ir a verlo siendo que sólo contamos con un día para recorrer Cinqueterre? Gracias!
