Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Went up in the Bigo on our last visit to Genoa. It is a replica of the device that was used many years ago to off-load cargo from the ships. The Bigo rotates as it goes up, allowing you to see the skyline of Genoa with the port and the towers in the mountains. The towers had cannons which would be shot off if there was an impending attack. The wharf area has been greatly improved and we enjoyed strolling around, eating foccacia and farinata.

We bought tickets online in advance. It was not clear from the website whether we needed to go and show these at the desk in the aquarium in exchange for paper tickets but we did not have to. The ride only lasts for 10 mins and it is very hot in the cabin. I would recommend getting here at 10am otherwise you might have a lng wait in the sun.

Genova is nearly void of “tourist rip off sites” so just about anything that you find interesting on TA’s list of sites will be a good choice! But for me there are three sites to stay away from, including the Bigo lift (the other two are the Biosphere and Christopher Columbus’ house). In 1992 the entire port area was renovated by the famous Genoese architect Renzo Piano to be a more tourist friendly area and to give the Genovese back their access to their long time love with the sea. The Bigo lift gives visitors a 360 panoramic view of the port area, but look at Genova; it’s a vertical city going from the sea to the mountains, there are fantastic views from many more exciting places then the unappealing cart of the Bigo. Skip it. If you want fantastic views try these; 1) nearly every visitor ends up on Via Garibaldi, just a 5 minute walk brings you to Piazza Portello, take the elevator (need ticket) to Castelletto and enjoy the views from Belvedere Montaldo. 2) At the opposite end of Via Garibaldi walk down Via Cariroli (several UNESCO buildings, great gelato, the oldest book store in Genova) to Largo Zecca and take the Funicolare Zecca/Righi to it’s last stop at Righi, high above Genova for amazing views (about a 12 minute ride, use a bus ticket). This view will knock your socks off !!! and during Spring/Summer/Fall a great place for lunch or a walk to one of the fortresses. 3) If you are near Stazione Principe, walk 5 minutes towards Via Balbi and take the ascensore Castello d'Albertis-Montegalletto elevator (first you go horizontally into the hill, then vertically up the hill!-see my review). When you get off, enter the free park of Castello d’Albertis (fantastic museum!) and enjoy the views! Throughout Genova there are many “ascenisore” and “funicolares” which will take you to beautiful views, much more interesting then the Bigo lift!

A very short, not very high panoramic view of the Old Port of Genoa. It's an interesting looking structure and I like that it has added a little variety to the old port (As well as helping retain a sense of the area's history) but its far better to look at than to get in. For Panoramic views of the city, Hop onto one of the many funicular railways and be taken far higher and to far more impressive views.

The Bigo is the panoramic lift offering you a unique view of Genoa’s harbor and hillside. Every 10 minutes of the day year round, this circular structure gradually brings you up to 40 meters high (approximately 132 feet) and offers a 360 ° vista over the city and the harbor. The Bigo is right next to the Genoa Aquarium in the middle of Porto Antico. You’ll see wonderful views from top floor of the market place and EATALY restaurants just on the opposite side. Highly recommend you try this ride and see for yourself the beauty of Genova from above. Cheers & Ciao!

The Bigo is considered one of the attractions most requested by tourists. The ticket cost only 4 euros.
It's worth going.

Bigo is an elevator that brings you up to the top of the Porto Antico and shows you a breathless view of the oldest part of the City of Genoa. Very nice.

Wouldn’t pay for it on its own, but as it came included with our aquarium ticket, it was worth a go.
It was hot and short, but had a nice view. It spun around so you could see all the “views”
