If you are a fan of walking in the nature, I have a nice suggestion for you. You can get to Santa Margherita by train and start your one day walking tour. There is special side walk from Santa Margherita to Portofino. It lasts about 2 hours if you walk normally and enjoy the scenes. By the lunch time you... More

Hired car and only took 1.5 hours from airport. The beach at the next town is a 20 minute stroll with Portofino 10 minute boat journey. Quiet laid back with excellent food weather and friendly people

It is a nice city but nothing special. I stopped there on my way to Portofino but I wasn't impressed at all.

Stayed in Hotel Metropole so < 5minute walk in to the town. Great shopping. Interesting shops and boutiques. Friendly merchants and people. No shortage of dining, cafes. Take a walk around the waterfront, sit on a bench and look at the ocean, boats, enjoy the breezes. Busy, not crowded in Oct. - so happy we stayed here, will never miss... More

We recently visited Santa Margherita Ligure and found the tourist information office extremely useful for planning our day (hiking to Portofino and back and visiting the Villa Durazzo and gardens). The person working in the office, Claudio, was very kind and competent. We wish that all tourist offices were staffed with people like him!

This is a lovely Italian town, loads of shops and restaurants and bars. Very picturesque and am sure it is even better in the summer months. Well worth a visit

We stop our car in Santa Margherita Ligure and took the Ferry to Portofino. It is beautiful town of the Italian Riviera and has its own character. I suggest two options for visiting Portofino, if you are driving. Option 1: Drive all the way to Portofino car park (44°18'14.3"N 9°12'28.9"E). There is limited space and would be difficult during the... More

This beautiful waterfront gem is 35 km southeast of Genoa, although it is still part of the greater metropolitan area. There are many quaint waterfront restaurants and shops and don't forget to visit Portofino while you are there! You can find buses and ferries to Portofino which run regularly - easily accessible from your hotel of choice!

This little town sits on the riviera just north of Portofino and you can easily get a cheap bus anywhere along the route. It's very pretty and easy & quick to get to from the unattractive city of Genoa. I visted in October and it was very dead. Barely any people about as I guess it was out of season.... More
