Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A very beautiful, picturesque place with this wonderful, very well-preserved laundry. To compensate for the lack of water in homes, this 19th century sink was built for shared use for washing clothes. So, in addition to its original function, it was a place of exchange and meetings. The atmosphere evokes old customs, t is a little gem that exudes a very evocative charm from the past. Today it is a very peaceful, shady place, perfect for a stopover. It is located on via Lupo.

Antico Lavatoio is the long tank of white marble divided into different parts, covered by an elegant roof made of cast iron and metal slabs. It was built in 1881, the Washhouse (“Lavatoio” in Italian) via San Lupo, in the Upper Town, represents a beautiful model from the design point of view. It’s provided with a water adduction system, an overflow drain system, a process of dirty water discharge after washing and a gutter of the water sprays produced during the washing. This makes it extremely effective and functional.

It was built at the end of the 1800s to provide the Upper Town with running water in the houses. A cistern was able to contain 300 m3 of water. I think it was interesting to see this old wash-house in via Lupo. It’s only a few minutes.

This wash house has been in use since 1891. It was constructed because the homes at that time did not have running water.
The tank is made of local Zandobbio marble. The roof has a cast iron frame covered by steel sheets.

This wash house is located a short distance from Piazza Vecchia.
From the information reported on a sign, we learn that "... it was built towards the end of the 19th century with the intention of providing the Upper Town with equipment that could make up for the lack of running water in the houses...".
The structure is topped by a cast iron roof and sheet metal.
There are some nice gardens nearby.

As I was wandering around the ancient side streets in this old part of the hill top town I came across this hidden intriguing place. Set in a little square area the construction was apparently a sort of communal laundry for washing clothes. I could imagine it being a cool, refreshing place in the summer with available running water and sufficient shade. Probably also a nice place for the local townsfolk to have a good chinwag.

This wash area was apparently used in medieval times by the ladies of the town to wash clothes and it is in remarkably good shape. It was fed by one of 2 ancient aqueducts (some parts of which still exist under the walls of the Citta Alta). For some reason, this site is not included by many of the tour guides according to the tourist office (which is within 100 mtrs of it). Whilst it is obviously not as huge and magnificent as many of the other sites afforded by the city, it is a real pity more is not made of it's history and that it does not have its own placard. It is a place where in your imagination you can almost hear, touch and smell the washerwomen of a bygone age.

Ages ago, women used to wash clothes there, and chat away, talk about neighbors, who went with hom, who did this and who did that. In a way, Facebook took over not the laundry pasrt, but the chat part of this location. Try to explain it to your kids. Also a good place to take a rest.

The area is nice, right behind Piazza Vechia. The trees and old buildings that surround it are great, and it is a good place to reast.
