Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Not too far within the old city walls is Piazza Medaglie d’Oro Comasche (the Square of Gold Medals), here are a number of lovely old houses, one of them houses Museo Garibaldi, another houses Civico Museo Archeologico Paolo Giovio.
These museums are joined by a walkway and between them house a really interesting and diverse collection. There are objects that date from pre history, moving forward through the Bronze and Iron Age, the ancient cultures of Egyptian, Greek, Roman, to the Napoleonic Era and recent past.
Some of the highlights of the museum are:
• Tomb hordes from the Bronze Age. These are laid out including some really intricate jewellery and pottery pieces.
• A collection of basic (almost stick person like) tiny bronze figurines from the Bronze Age.
• Flint tool heads.
• Small Egyptian deity statues.
• Greek pottery.
• A funerary wagon from the Etruscan bronze period found in 1928 and reconstructed by Luigi Perrone gives an insight into how impressive this piece would have been at that time.
• There is an amazing dipper from late I-II century AD, manufactured entirely from glass including the handle.
• Men’s clothing and military uniforms that date to mid 1800s
• Women’s Cloaks, dresses and corsets, silk fans and shoes, some intricately embroidered.
• Intricate handmade lace panels
• Napoleon Tea sets
• Collection of weapons and military uniforms used in the Rigorgimental Movement, through to the Second World War.
This is a well laid out museum, housed in a couple of Renaissance houses which were renovated in the 1800s.
Information labels in Italian but I was provided with English sheets that explained each section.
Unbelievably there were only a handful of visitors while I was there (less than 10).
Great value at E4.00
Keyed lockers are available which makes sightseeing so much more comfortable.
Toilets on site.

For a museum in a small city, the Civic Museum has something to interest everybody. The largest collections are pre-Roman and Roman but the museum also has an interesting Egyptian room among others.

It is on la Piazza Medaglie d’Oro 1, Como.
A museum with rich contents.
Four small introductory rooms feature the new elements introduced by the Roman culture, unknown to previous Celtic culture: lamps, little scales, precision, figurines, blown glass, bright colors, fine tableware, frescoes..........
The exhibition follows a thematic approach: the military organization, religious events, businesses, production activities, food, toiletries, medicine, entertainment and, most recently, the cult of the dead..

Well worth a visit - plenty to see, including exceptional prehistoric finds, leading to an excellent Roman collection. Don't miss the mosaic, which is in a building across the courtyard. Also, the museum leads directly to the local 19th century history collection which is mainly to do with the re-unification of Italy.

We concentrated on the Late Bronze Age and Iron Age grave finds from Como's pre-Roman version SW of the current town. Don't miss this if you're into the period, but you'd better read some Italian because the English textual content is just a few laminated sheets of paper for all visitors to share.

Nice and well managed small museum, with plenty of interesting ancient findings, which show some light on Como’s history. Recommended for a visit in a rainy day or if you stay few days in Como (if you are just passing by, you better take a walk on the lake shore or go up to Brunate)

This museum has its origins dating back to the 1830's and has been added to over the decades so it's now a fairly substantial museum covering prehistoric times through to the Iron Age.
The ground floor contains material from the Roman period including a collection of stone engravings an decorative architectural elements sourced from the town
The first floor is dedicated to nineteenth century collections of antiquities including the Egyptian collection, Greek vases, prehistoric collection and small bronze items and Roman gemstones.
It's well worth a visit although we had to rush through in 45 minutes before the 5pm closing time.
There is a small entry fee

Remarkable paleo/pre historic displays to be viewed. More info in English might be helpful but a great museum that tells of the tale of Como.

We spent an excellent couple of hours here. my archaeologist husband was impressed by it.
There were some really wonderful exhibits.
Certainly to be recommended.
My only criticism is it had a sort of one way system; I was too tired to manage the whole place but to have returned to see the rooms we missed we would have had to walk through all the rooms.
