The area

Neighbourhood: Centro Storico
The pulsating core of Milan is in Centro. Duomo Square is enclosed by the gothic cathedral, the historic icon of Milan. However, shopping is what draws most crowds to this area. The classy and versatile Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II with luxury boutiques and high quality restaurants will turn any shopping or lunch expedition into a royal experience. Head to the rooftop of the flagship La Rinascente to enjoy the view of the animated square with a panorama of the Duomo. The Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the street for high-end shopping. Brands of all kinds and street artists attract the attention of all visitors; while at Via Santa Radegonda 16, Luini Panzerotti is a much appreciated street food shop providing unimaginable culinary experiences. If shopping takes its toll on you, consider visiting Castello Sforzesco, a 15th century castle housing several museums. Those looking to relax can go to Parco Sempione, where nature provides respite from the energy of this dynamic and international city.

I had never been to the civic aquarium of Milan, and the visit was short but pleasant. I don't know about the conservation of animals in tanks, so I'm only referring to the display and the exhibition signs and captions, unfortunately some of these are in very poor condition and partially illegible. It's a great shame, because the aquarium, although small, is very cute and perfect for a little trip and especially for children, who I saw very happy.
Another flaw was the lack, at the time of my visit, of checked lockers or coat hangers.
An extra point to the 3/5 that I would have liked to give, I give it for the building itself, in art nouveau style even if rebuilt after the bombings of WWII.
I recommend the visit, because it is still an interesting museum, and you shouldn't expect the Genoa-style mega aquarium, but something more peaceful.

Pretty nice to see. When we arrived, we suggested leaving our backpack in the cloakroom, the girl kindly told us that we could do it but that she would not have any kind of surveillance, we were a little surprised, when these tourist places, usually bring backpacks and also finding local staff, talking to a few 15 meters. We still left them and collected them after the visit without any damage. Regarding the yard, you can see turtles and other fish although somewhat neglected regarding cleanliness.

This is not a kind of aquariums with huge tanks and sharks swimming around you, but it is quite fine to spend an hour with the kids inside. The price of 5 euro for the adults (for children the entrance is free) is a bit too high. Our suggestion is to purchase Museum Card for 12 eurowhich gives you 72 hours free entrance to this museum and all the Civic museums too (Castello Sforzesco, Natural history museum, Modern art gallery, Palazzo Morandi, Archeological museum etc.

We visited the aquarium aware that it wasn't going to be huge but it was even smaller than we expected. There is one main room with several tanks in it, some of which were empty and others were in need of a good clean. There are stairs to an upstairs area but there is nothing to see up there. There are also side rooms but again there is nothing to see there. Outside there are some ponds but they were in a dreadful state when we visited. I felt sorry for the poor animals living in them. This attraction can easily be seen in half an hour so at €5 each it felt like a total rip off. Avoid!

The aquarium is small (for adults and teens), but for small children (under 10, i guess) it is great. There are about 30 different kinds of aquariums with different kinds of fish and sea/water creatures.
We came there while it was very hot this autumn in Milan, and spent there about 2 hours. My 2,5 years twins looked through all exhibition for 3 times!!! :)
Also, I don't remember, what day it was, but it was free entrance! Or..it was because of time..we came after 14-00.
The entrance is very nice, with fountain, pond and gold fishes inside!

The aquarium is small, modern, and free. It's very close to the Castle, inside Parco Sempione, so it's easy to just pop over for half an hour when you are sight-seeing. The exhibits are on the different water ecosystems of Italy, and start with mountain systems and move clockwise through lakes, rivers, to the Mediterranean. I recommend taking a left when you enter, starting at the mountains, even though your eyes will be immediately drawn to the cool oceanic tanks to the right... Make sure to check the opening hours on the website; as it's free entry year round, the hours are limited and I think they have a lot of closed days. Also, the outside of the building itself is unique, it's in the Italian Liberty style with some cool tile work.

We went to the museum as part of 3-day museum card. We were fairly disappointed with the museum. The exhibition is tiny. It took us about 15 minutes to look through it. Furthermore, the exhibition is not that interesting. There was only one aquarium with fishes from Red sea (I think), and one tiny aquarium with jellyfishes. The rest were simply types of fish very commom to Europe - for us, all of them could be found in our lakes - not interesting at all. Since it is quite on the corner, I definitely do not think it is worth visiting, unless you like the feel of cheap museums.

A small aquarium. We were visiting parc Sempione on a very hot day, and this was a nice place to cool down a little, but it wasn't different from other aquaria you have probably visited.

but infortunately it is too small. You can visit it within an hour. Good thing though you don't have to pay.

I went here alone but thoroughly enjoyed looking at the different species of fish. Nothing out of the ordinary - clownfish, angelfish, stingray, coy, etc. but if you're on a budget, or simply want something else to do while in the area, it's worth a look. Free entrance, closed on Mondays, closes for lunch from 1-2pm Tuesday-Sunday.
