The abbey is simply beautiful. Surrounded by nature, with church, monastery, cloister... The main "square" with arcades it's just lovely. It's a nice stop outside busy Milan. And also the monks are very active - selling organic products from their gardens in a shop inside the abbey.

A step back in time, it is truly breathtaking! Make sure you research before you go to understand where you are going, or it will be just photographs only

This Abbazia is on the outskirts of Milan so a bit of a trip to this medieval church but if you are around this area it's well worth visiting

A great place to visit immersed in what is now a park all around the city. It is not far from the city centre. Just do not go there on Mondays, they are closed. The history of the abbey is so fascinating and it will take you back to the early Middle Ages.

We were staying at Viale Campania about 5km walk from the Abbazia. Today, Sunday, took out morning walk out to the Abbey which took an hour...including passing THE Milan city boundary sign!! The walk showed how quickly the high density of Milan apartment blocks changes to open fields and run down sheds in such a short space of time. We... More

See my tips on getting there at end of review. This is a beautiful peaceful place a bus journey into the attractive countryside ouside Milan. There was a very helpful girl at reception who supplied us with the last copy of the English guide book which we returned on leaving. There are unfortunately no English language tours, only in Italian... More

We thought we were being really sensible by going here on a Monday, not a Sunday, since we assumed that services would be going on. Alas, we were wrong. Almost everything was shut. We did get to have a look inside the abbey itself, and a little peek into the herb garden and at the mill. The frescoes were beautiful,... More

Beautiful abbey stunning frescoes and choir stalls. Pick up Jacob a monk who will give a free 2/3 hour talk all in Italian. Good shop with plenty of goods made by the monks. DO NOT use toilets ... Hole in the ground smelt disgusting. The moulino costs3 euros to enter don't bother. Not well signposted, need to cross the railway... More

This slightly out-of-the-city spot offers the visitor a very good insight of life in the abbey. Dating back to the 15th century with many additions and restorations later, there are beautiful frescos and fountains to be seen. Its a peaceful getaway just south of Milan.
