We came here as part of our walking tour, passing through the impressive columned courtyard into the eye catching decor inside, with paintings and furniture in excellent condition. The most intriguing part of the Basilica in my view is the crypt where there are the dressed remains of Saints Ambrose, Gervasus and Protasus which are visible to the public. A few reasons to visit here so well worth spending an hour here if you have the time.

A friend and I stumbled on this place en route to our visit to the Last Supper and I so wish we'd had more time to fully explore it. What an amazing place! Consecrated in the 4th century, the current church goes back 1,000 years; both the interior and the exterior of the church are magnificent. The mosaics are astonishing and worth a trip just themselves. I could do without the entombed skeletons of martyrs visible in the crypt but everything else about this church is a real marvel and there's really good English signage. Next time I'm in Milan this will be at the top of my list.

Stunning yet unassuming building with some hidden gems. It looks like an old church - but you don't realise how old until you explore the details. The gold-leaf covered ceiling dates to the 5th century. There are several well-preserved relics on display.
