The original church was constructed in 752 and enlarged in the mid-13th-century. Initially the church was dedicated to Saint Agnes, but by the year 1000, it was dedicated to San Teodoro, bishop of Pavia who died in 778. The body of the saint, who is...More

One wall in this church displays paintings of the siege of Charlemagne. The problem is that the painting portray events that never happened, namely, the defeat of Charlemagne. The events were altered because of the political needs of the people 700 years after the real...More

This is early Romanesque and is dark, peaceful and a place for contemplation. Very near to the river and worth a visit.

So totally different to the Duomo. Very dim inside but so worth a visit to see the amazing frescoes on the walls and the areas of mosaic flooring which have been exposed for viewing. No charge to enter.

Set in a small square it is not easy to photograph the exterior. Inside the frescos are very interesting, particularly the ones of medieval Pavia, also the ones telling the story of St Teodoro. May seem dark and dingy, but it has huge charm.

Great frescos in this church, they show Pavia as it was in the 1500's. The number and placement of the frescos, one can see, suggest that this church once had all its internal walls covered in artwork. It is in the old part of the...More

This is a quite ordinary little romanesque church, similar to several others scattered across northern Italy. If you are visiting Pavia in a hurry, skip this church. However, if you know Pavia at least a little, the fresco near the W entrance provides a surprising...More

Romanesque church, in the middle of the medieval part of town. Unimpressive and unexpiring from the outside, but what a jewel on the inside. Lighting is at a premium with the small windows typical of this style. I loved the frescoes (draft and final version,...More

An absolute must-not miss. Frescos and architecture are quite unique. Opening hours are a bit tricky. Crashing into weddings ceremonies on Saturdays is definitely an option -despite politeness may be needed.
