Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A real disappointment. The museum is really much smaller than the original one. Impossible to talk on the phone to ask for information. After a morning spent trying to contact them to find out if it was possible to carry a dog weighing just under 2 kilos in a bag, we went anyway. We queued for half an hour, passing in front of the first lady at the entrance, getting our tickets at the cash desk and checked by the third lady, with the dog on display in the special carrier bag; once I enter the first room I am stopped by a fourth boy who tells me that it is absolutely forbidden to bring animals into the museum and invites me to leave the room. Without going further, they took me out and we had to visit the three narrow rooms in turn. Due to the paucity of the visit and the rudeness of the staff (lazy and not very attentive, evidently) I do not recommend it.

If you arrive in Turin on a Monday you will find everything closed! As a last alternative we contacted this museum by telephone, and the secretariat confirmed what was written on the site, i.e. that it closed at 7pm, with last entry at 5pm. We then walked throughout the city to reach this museum and the entrance they tell us it is not accessible!!! Absurd! In response, the girls at the entrance tell us that it is not possible to update the telephone disk every time! Of course it is possible and above all respectful for tourists looking for experiences in the city. Incorrect and outdated information is misleading for travelers but also for locals eager to spend a day in a museum. But what does a tourist who comes to town on a Monday do?? Terrible management

It almost seems like it was forced open... all new, all shiny, all there! Set up with the original display cases put back in place, the rooms are polished and painted completely white. The original animals appear to have been newly restored, very beautiful but some are 200 years old and appear dry and mangy. In short, an open museum that is not a museum. In other cities you find larger exhibitions in proportion to what should be there in the city of Turin... or maybe it's me who expected more, or maybe it's me who makes the comparison with other museums. They say that sooner or later the rest of the museum will open. Glancing out the windows, the building is abandoned and no construction sites can be seen or heard. Bo...' all these years with a brush on weekends I would have done the same interior jobs. He just hoped that with this form of "self-financing" they could start work on the rest of the museum and finish it in less time... let's hope so.

I must say that expectations were very high, perhaps dictated by the hype due to its reopening after 10 years.
Of course there is no point in making comparisons with natural science museums like those in London or New York, but I found it a little disappointing.
It's a bit small, you can see it all in an hour at most.
It doesn't have a lot of informative material, and I personally left there feeling that I hadn't "grown up" culturally (which is something I often look for when visiting museums).
It's definitely a lot of fun for kids and kids.
However, the cost of €5 is more than honest and in line with the offer.
I don't think I'll go back, but it's worth a trip.

After years of closure, this beautiful museum has reopened for adults and children. Many species of animals well restored and preserved. Also present are memorabilia and original objects from numerous Italian expeditions around the world.

Great visit definitely recommended! The Regional Museum of Natural Sciences brings together collections of botany, entomology, geology - mineralogy - petrology, palaeontology and zoology. The Museum is housed in the building of the Ospedale di San Giovanni that still retains its original appearance externally. In the Palaeontology section are about 300 pieces of both plant and animal origin. The collection was formed in the eighteenth century and was later expanded in the nineteenth century. It also includes the important recent acquisitions from excavations and collections, like the rhinoceros, and the remains fish fossils. The zoological collection is fantastic! The visit lasts on average less than two hours and obviously depends on how much attention is devoted to each finding.

I wasn't about to visit the museum & got there just by chance. I did like it, though, especially the installations on the ground flour. The price is very reasonable for such a museum (I also got a discount ticket being under 26). The only minus can mention is that although there're lots of different animal species all of them are titled only in Italian. As I don't speak Italian it was quite difficult for me to identify some of them :)

The museum is not in its normal place for Oct & Nov 2014.
Smaller exhibit can get through quickly. Nothing new from other museums.

We visited in Oct 2012. The building is very large from the outside and the entry is large and sweeping so we expected big things but the displays are very rudimentary and not very scientific. This is more a display of someone's taxidermy hobby. There is an inordinate number of preserved animals but very little in the way of information, context, relevance and nothing about their habitat. I think there is one video display so kids raised on high stimulation electronics will think you are punishing them if you take them here! It was quite a strange place. It seemed like there was a lot of unused space in the building. It almost seemed like we were looking at a collections storage room the way it was presented. I think we stayed about an hour and probably only that long to avoid the rain outside.

apart from the usual display of animals and skeletons, some quite old, they are opening a whole new area that's real state of the art in modern technicalities. lots of interactive planels, and all displays are really well done. explanation on the panels and screens is both in italian and english, so it's useful to foreign visitors too. this new area is freely visitable on saturdays and sundays only, whereas during weekdays there are only guided tours at 11am and 4pm, due to lack of staff... this should hopefully soon improve so that anyone can enjoy the new section. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I certainly recommend it if you are visiting the town for a fw days.
