Designed in 1564 by Vitozzi. It's lined with porticoes and is the real heart of the city: here and hereabouts stand the great buildings that have witnessed the development of the city, from the ancient Roman era to our days. In the middle of the square stands Palazzo Madama and on the side you could see The Royal Theatre, The Royal Palace , the Royal Library (that houses Leonardo da Vinci 's operas). In Piazza Castello (The Castle Square) begin the most important central streets, like Rome Street, Po Street, Garibaldi Street and Pietro Micca Street.

A pretty piazza, especially in the spring sunshine. Easily accessible from Torino Centrale station, and a good city centre navigation point for tourists. If you walk a little further into the Gardini Reali you can pick up a free city map.

Quite a big square, and Palazzo Madama at the side, there are also the Torino Bulls, a nice place to walk around. And just round the corner there is the Duomo of the Shroud.

This large piazza, next to Palazzo Reale and Palazzo Madama, was occupied by a magnificent tree of lights during the Christmas season.

This Square is very beautiful and is central to Turin and connects all of the main streets and roads and other squares. It is big and has a beautiful spacious area in the middle with benches and fountains where you can relax. There are two palaces you can visit, Palazzo Madama which I visited some time ago and was stunning,... More

This square is located in Turin city centre next to the royal castle. The only this that I didn't like was seeing that the police let an african man play their typical drum in the middle of the square undisturbed...with all the historic importance of the place it was absolutely appalling to see something like that! the funny thing is... Piazza castello's atmosphere is similar to piazza del Duomo in Milan, full of activities and restaurants and shops, and the local police are patrolling the place all the time so you will feel safe. The piazza is one of Turin's landmarks so it's a must visit.
