Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Museum of Ancient Art is located in Palazzo Madama (Madama Palace), which is located in Piazza Castello (Castle Square), in Torino, the main city in Piedmont Region. Here you can see a lot of artworks (paintings, sculptures wood objects, etc.) since Gothic period and also from Renaissance, Barroque and Middle-Ages styles. It is very nice. Also, you can go to the old part, where a castle there is and go up to the towers. From here, you can see very nice of old town of the city, the most important buildings like Royal Palace and Mole Antonelliana and Alpine Region. Very nice museum.

Beautiful very old handicrafts, especially the 2nd floor with religious motifs dating back to 1195-1210. 3rd floor nice view of the city.
There is an elevator.
The cafe is a vending machine with water and chips!

A beautiful palace on the large fountain square... Very varied, from ceramics to art paintings to Roman foundations... We love the 0 with all a glass room on the foundations, the floor of the paintings with magnificent ceilings, the grand welcoming stairs and access to the top of the tower by elevator: my view of Turin is incredible! Beautiful and there is hardly anyone on Monday! To do!

My mother and I visited the Palazzo Madama on August 28. The exhibitions are super and the building itself is incredible. What stood out was an incredibly helpful lady of the museum staff, who went out of her way to explain thins to us, guided us to spots we would not have seen ourselves....and simply added joy to the day of everyone she spoke to ! The people in Turin are super - thank you for your welcome and hospitality !!

Most tourists in Torino visit the Egyptian Museum and the Museum of Cinema, but Palazzo Madama is worth a couple of hours. It has been recently renewed and there are always temporary exhibitions too. In the wanderful layered building (used to be a roman portal, then a middle age castle and then a 1700 palace) you will find several unique pieces from roman age, then through the centuries up to 1800. From paintings to fornitures, and a rich porcelane and potery collection. Some masterpiece are there too, such as the famous portrait by Antonello da Messina. You may leverage an interesting card to visit several places in Torino.

This museum is doable in an hour or two. It has richly decorated rooms, religious artwork, extensive ceramics and a nice view from it's rustic towers....which are accessible by stairs or elevator. The grand staircases near the entrance were not open the day we visited.

I have visited Turin often in the last 2 years - in fact 6 times - this museum is not the flashiest museum - but with the beautiful view from the tower, and the exceptional garden, and the medieval art; and special exhibits, and a beatific staircase, I always want to return here. Best kept secret, the cafe has a wonderful seating arrangement to just take a coffee. And to repeat, an intimate garden in the center of s big city is just the greatest.

The palazzo looks beautiful from the outside and there are certainly some interesting parts but there were a lot of negatives for me and I won't return here.
This review I'll keep brief and to the point:
Pro's -
* The special exhibit on Primo Levi was very interesting and worth the visit
* The mosaic floor downstairs was lovely (I think this was from Roman times, but a lack of signage made this challenging)
* Being able to see the way the castle has been added to over time - from roman ruins to medieval castle to baroque was absolutely wonderful for me.
* If you are interested in religious iconography or 18th century vases and teacups then it is great
* I suspect the gardens would be wonderful in spring or summer
Con's -
* The most disinterested and dismissive staff I have come across in Italy (particularly the guy in the coffee shop). Staff make a big difference and when you get eyes rolled because you want to order something and this means that they have to come out of the back room and put down their phone, ask (in Italian - albeit not particularly good Italian) whether you order at the table or counter and get a grunt as a reply it makes a big difference to an experience. The staff through the museum were also disinterested, but at least not rude.
* Confusing layout and there are no maps. I was never sure if I was walking in the right direction or not (and the staff were of no help)
* While this next con is particularly anglophone centric - it was difficult that all of the artefact details were in Italian only (for a smaller attraction I wouldn't complain, but this is a big one) and so I felt unable to properly enjoy the things on display.

If you don't want to pay the 10 euro entrance fee, you can still go into the main entrance, walk up the beautiful stone staircase on one side and come down the other. On the way, you'll be able to admire the gorgeous ceiling, marble floor and decorations and all for free. However, it would be a pity not to visit this museum which is full of various artefacts from different eras such as Roman coins, Medieval and Renaissance art, 18th century furniture, and ceramics, jewellery and other exhibits through the ages. There are also various temporary exhibitions on, for example at the moment you can admire the pieces (dresses, bags, shoes etc) donated by people from Turin and which make up the Affetti Personali exhibition which looks at Turin's important role in fashion from the 1920s onwards. There is also an incredible view of the city from the higher levels of the museum and a lovely café where you can enjoy a well-earned rest in lovely surroundings.

This city palace is definitely worthwile visiting in Turin. Forget about queueing up for the mole Antonelliana lift. The platform in the Palazzo Madama, gives a much more intime view on Turin. The Palazzo has a great collection of art, beautifully displayed and some splendid furnished rooms. The cafe Madama is not to be missed, the kind barista serves you the best espresso in town. Sit in the club chairs with a view on the Piazza Castello, and drink your coffee. This is how beautiful life can be.
