Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A church originally built in the Gothic period, it was severely damaged during WWII. After the war it was reconstructed, but all the original frescoes were lost.
Today, it looks like a modern church, with beautiful stained glass windows beneath the main altar.
The most stunning piece of art here is the main altarpiece.
There is also a beautiful cloister, but it was closed when I visited.

The Franciscan Friary, originally built during the 13th century, however, its present form is mostly from the 14th century. It was bombed during WWII and thus partly rebuilt, losing many of its interior frescoes. It features a nice Gothic altar by Hans Klocker, and a really nice Gothic cloister from the 14th century with many frescoes still intact

Located in heart of Bolzano, just off the main shopping trek. It was delightfully quiet ...don't be put off by "closed doors" - unlocked.
Inside is a beautifully light church of antiquity with some modern.

The Franciscan Church and adjacent Monastery date back to the beginning of the 14th century. It is one of the few churches of its time, which shows the gothic signs.
The famous 'Klocker Altar'was erected around 1500; it's a Christmas altar designed to illustrate to the beholder the miracle of the Incarnation of Christ. Mary and Joseph kneel before the divine child. The wooden altar was banished to the attic for centuries and was not re-erected by the monks until the 19th century.
The walls of the church are almost empty.
One of the few fresco paintings, created around 1500, represents an absolute art historical rarity, the university culture in a church.
The 14th-century cloister is adorned with Gothic frescoes and 18th-century paintings.

I always enjoy seeing the interiors of churches, and make it a part of my touring through just about any city. More than just a church, this is a monastery, and I was impressed by the Franciscan church not just for its interior, but for the charming courtyard a few steps below street level from which you can enter the church, and from the simple but lovely cloister. There are more visited churches in the city, but I had as good an experience here as at any of the others. Built first in the late 13th century, it was altered in the 14th and 15th, and in certain areas you can see some of the frescoes that once colored it brightly. There is a little cafe next to the complex, and I nearly had a snack there as well, but contented myself with the simple (that is after all the Franciscan style) monastery complex, backed by mountains, at the edge of bustling Bolzano.

This was my last stop on a Monday afternoon tour of some of the city's fine churches.
'The best until last' . Personally true. Open daily from 10 until 5.30pm and from 2.30pm on Sundays.
Minutes away from the very fragrant but hot and busy Piazza Erbe, is complete cool, complete cloistered calm.
The exterior wall and large trees are the first clue. Fantastic stained glass. A knockout of a Klocker altar (visit the Civic Museum to see his famous religious sculpture). Fine Frescoes and huge paintings depicting the saint's life.
Sublime !

Kind of out of the way of most of the tourist attractions. It seemed deserted and I’m glad we took a chance on it. It was really peaceful. There is a courtyard to walk around and you can enjoy the frescos that art painted all the way around as well as the arched ceilings. The chapel has gorgeous stained glass windows!

This church, very close to the town centre, has a light, open aspect which is very pleasing. The stained-glass windows are simple yet beautiful, and it’s a delightful place to visit.
