About
The Buonconsiglio Castle is the largest and most important monumental complex of the Trentino Alto Adige region. It was the residence of the prince-bishops of Trento from the 13th century to the end of the 18th century, and is composed of a series of buildings of different eras, enclosed by walls and positioned slightly higher than the city. Castelvecchio is the oldest nucleus, dominated by an imposing cylindrical tower; the Magno Palazzo is the 16th century expansion in the Italian Renaissance-style as commissioned by the Prince-Bishop and Cardinal Bernardo Cles (1485-1539); the Baroque-style Giunta Albertiana dates from the end of the 17th century. At the extreme south of the complex is the Torre Aquila, within which is conserved the famous Cycle of the Months, one of the most fascinating secular pictorial cycles of the late Middle Ages.

A must if you love art and history. The museum is full of historical relics and different paintings from different artists. The garden is very beautiful, peaceful and well kept. Unfortunately we couldn't visit the tower due to our limited time, but I would definitely come back just to go up there and enjoy the view over the city

Super nice old castle. Beautiful paintings on all the walls and some of the sealings. Most of the information is only available in Italian. You need at least an hour to see the whole castle.
(Precautions for covid-19 are good. You need to wear a mask ande your temperature is measured at the entrance)

My son & I really enjoyed visiting this castle as there are lots of neat sections to visit in the old part. The "newer" parts are interesting as well, & their collection of artifacts & exhibits is impressive. Well worth the reasonable entrance fee. The cafe was also pretty good! Grounds were decorated for the holidays which was also nice. Highly recommended!

Definitely worth visiting. The frescoes were interesting and the displays of paintings and sculptures were beautiful. Helpful staff explained where to go and what to see first. Lots of steps but even the staircases were beautifully decorated. There is a cafe, bookshop and toilets. Parking was available just opposite, although we were probably lucky to find a space there.

This castle has "marked" the oldest but the most recent history of the city of Trento as well. With its architectural and decorative characteristic of the Medieval and Renaissance Eras, it is a major attraction of the city, which the visitor must definitely visit. The view of the city and the high massifs over Trento is beautiful from Venician Lodge.

Was told gardens were wheelchair accessible in email communication.found entrance for wheelchair and guard refused to open door. Demanded we go to ticket office which was up staircase. Ticket office sent us to the wheelchair entrance and guard said we had to ticket entrance with all those steps. No one cared and we had to leave.

The castle itself is an architectural marvel. It has many gorgeous ceilings, frescoes, walkways, and castle details. The museum, on the other hand, is poorly organized and has only enough English to be able to claim that it is in English. One of my criteria for assessing whether a museum is good or not is to ask myself at the end of the visit, "What did I learn?" And for this museum, I'd have to say, "Nothing." I don't think it was a complete waste of 10 euros, but it was a bit disappointing.
