We rode Vaporetto 2 along Giudecca Canal to reach a photography exhibition at Casa dei Tre Oci. It was our first time on this canal during the day and we were amazed to see how wide the waterway is -- much grander than the Grand Canal. Large cruise ships use the route to enter Venice and the waterway generally hosts constant traffic. On this rainy morning in mid-December, however, we only saw a few other vaporetti.

The canal bisects Giudecca island, where the exhibition was held, and the Dorsoduro district, which sits on both the Giudecca and Grand canals. The two canals meet at Punta della Dogana and flow into the San Marco Basin. When visiting Casa dei Tre Oci, we had beautiful views of San Marco through the mist that swirled across the Giudecca Canal.

We ambled along the walkway that passes in front of the art venue for a while, enjoying the changing views across the water before stopping for lunch. Dorsoduro also has a walkway that follows the canal. I consider the best views to occur when on a vaporetto, where both sides can be seen easily along with any water traffic.

Loved walking on the other bank of the canal which offers you great views of the island. This canal takes much larger ships than the grand canal.

The place has no cruise ships, its main gangplank and tourists. Very sad to see like this. No life and buzz.

Gazing from our window at the Hotel Baglioni Luna gave us a panoramic view over to the Canale della Giudecca - the Giudecca Canal & the Cruise Ships passing into & out of Venice. The size of these ships dwarfs the city. Locals have mixed opinions, some quite vocal...

Giudecca Canal is a large waterway and you can tell with the giant cruise ships.

It is nice to scenic ride on the boat as you then get into the Grand Canal.

This large canal separating Giudecca and Dorsoduro (Venice "proper") is the main passage for cruise ships entering and exiting the port of Venice.
Views from high up on the ships provide a unique overview of the city.

Each entrance and exit is met by people on land and on the water protesting the presence of the cruise ships.

We used this (canal?) the largest canal I’ve been on lol, to get into Venice. There were many boats going to and from Venice. The ride wasn’t very long but it is very scenic and you’ll enjoy the short ride. It’s even better to view this from the land and look out into the water with a loved one.

This canal is far wider and has more heavier ship traffic than the Grand Canal. It separates Giudecca from Venice proper. You can stroll along the Zattere and gaze across the canal at some of the photogenic buildings in Venice.

This is one of the major canals in Venice. It is where you will see all the cruise ships coming and going. We were fortunate to be able to enter the canal by boat on our return trip from the Brenta Canal. It was quite interesting to see Venice from this prospective.
