Context provides an in-depth alternative to traditional tours. We are a network of architects, historians, art historians, and other specialists who organize over 300 different walks in 15 cities around the world. Florence teaches that art does not exist in a vacuum. Here in the churches, palaces, and other Renaissance-era institutions we encounter art in its original setting enveloped by social and political context.

We can think of no better way of spending our first evening since 2012 in La Serenissima than with Sommelier Rachel Erdman, savoring her expertise along with her wonderful selections of wine and cicchetti (small plates). The evening was extremely well-orchestrated, moving from "lighter" whites to full-bodied reds, with perfectly matched food, while we increased our knowledge of the regional... More

We did a 3 hour Lion Hunt Tour in Venice with Nadia. We had some concerns that our 4 young children (between 6 and 12 years) would struggle to last 3 hours walking around Venice, but Nadia had them eating out of her hand. Her enthusiastic and flexible approach, along with the Lion Hunt game, kept the kids entertained and... More

If you are visiting a city for the first time (or maybe for the 10th time) and want to truly understand where you are, what you are seeing, the history and stories of the place, then Context Tours are my recommendation. We took a 3 1/2 hour walking tour with Matteo in Venice and came away with far more than... More

The three hour tour in Venice was fascinating. The guide (Monica Chojnacka) shared a wealth of knowledge. I thought it would be too advanced or detailed but on the contrary, Monica made all that we saw come alive and have a depth of meaning I hadn't expected. She was relaxed, friendly, and very available to answer questions and elaborate. This... More

My husband and I did the Cannaregio walk with Nadia, and the Wines of the Veneto with Rachel. Both tours were fun, informative, engaging - and our guides were warm and lively and smart. We look for a Context Tour wherever we travel.

This was my fifth trip to Venice. I felt I had a good knowledge base but was amazed at the amount of new information presented by our guide. We strolled for three hours and the pace was relaxed and the enthusiasm and presentation by our guide was wonderful. Only four of us on the tour so it was very intimate.... More

Nadia Mazzon was excellent! Great English, hugely knowlegable, flexible, appropriate and keen for us to learn and understand. Also a pleasure to spend time with.

Monica's tour of Venice was excellent! The hunt for architectural lions was a common thread throughout that kept our 10 year old daughter engaged and learning. She was kind, charming, and enthusiastic about Venice. August is a busy month for Venice - especially the Rialto Bridge & area. Despite the crowds, Monica was able to show/teach us all sorts of... We had a private tour on the Ecology of Venice for a family of 6. Kids are 14, 15, 19, and 22. Lucca is fabulous! He is an expert in his field who can relate content without being dry and was always putting things in a historical context. He kept us all engaged from the 14 yr old to the... More

Our family of 4 including a 5 year old and 8 year old were kept entertained and engaged as we completed our guide Monica's challenges and games and learned about the history of Venice. Monica's passion for Venice is contagious and her stories were captivating for both our children and ourselves. It was a wonderful afternoon.
