Neighbourhood: Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely open space in front of the Basilica with views across the lagoon to St Mark's Square. Beautiful in the sunshine and very peaceful.

Large area in front of Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute on the tip of Dorsoduro. It is a great place to relax, watch the water traffic and affords great views of San Marco area.

The great amazing campo is at the end of the Grande Canale at its widest point. Full of history, the very famous San Salute Church which is like a huge wedding cake. Great point to take iconic photo's. If you are here in Carnivale, it is a place where professional photographers take photo;s of Venetians in their fabulous carnival outfits.

The camp is quite long with numerous steps on the edge of the Grande Canale, in sunny days tourist sit here and take in the amazing views across the lagoon.

It has a small pretty canal to the other side, with two wooden bridges. This is a main area for tourists or locals to jump onto a waterbus

Large square between Santa Maria Della Salute, the Grand Canal and Punta della Dogana, this is a great place just to hang out on the steps of Salute or along the canal. This is also a great location to get the iconic Venice photo of the Doge Palace and the Campanile.

This fondamenta is just two minutes walk from our hotel on Calle Bastion, we only have to walk just across the old wooden bridge.

Over the bridge, the walkway is at the side of a very typical small canal, and the very famous/beautiful church.

On a cold or rainy day, this is not a good place to be, but when the weather is kind it is a great place to linger, take photographs. When Carnivale takes place, this area is where the beautifully dressed people have their professional photographs taken

Just a short walking distance (to the east) from the Peggy Guggenheim Museum.
A splendid stepped open area, which runs down to the Canal Grande, in front of the impressive basilica. Depending on the season and time of day, it can be quite quiet and peaceful.

You are probably here to visit the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute, yet, the square here is something special, with quite different pavement, and steps to the water. Worth the visit

The Campo is a very wide-open area in front of and next to the Basilica. At times, it can be teeming with people and other times you think, you have Venice all to yourself. This is a great place to come sit, relax and soak in the sights across the Grand Canal. You can sit on the steps of the Basilica or on the steps leading to the Grand Canal.

Square around the church is decorated with different colours of stone and some patterns. It leads to a staircase and up to the church.
