The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

After walking through the Getto, and crossing an old stone bridge you are on this interesting fondamenta.
Situated at the side of the side of the Rio della Misericordia canal, which sometimes has the occasional small boat going by, it is a brilliant place to slowly wander on a lovely sunny day
This is an area for local venetians and not many tourists. Tere are so many interesting things to see, small local shops, the odd wine bar, there is a great shop selling costumes to hire for the carnival which is interesting to go inside. Very unusual very old buildings - this fondamenta is totally fascinating.

A perfect location even in August. Very easy to get away from the crowds and explore the galleries and back streets. Excellent local pizza and pasta so didn’t need to overspend. Would definitely return.

Along the Fondamenta, you immerse yourself in an architectural context rich in nuances.
The buildings, with their styles ranging from Gothic to Renaissance, bear witness to the different eras that have left their mark on Venice.
The decorated windows, wrought iron balconies, colorful facades, small taverns and artisans' workshops give a unique character to this part of the city.
While other places are mostly crowded, a certain degree of tranquility is preserved here.
