Please forgive me, I entered without paying the admission. Second only to San Marco, SM Glorioso dei Frari - or simply the Frari - is perhaps Venice's most important church. Aside from its religious importance, this church is also one of the tallest in the city as well! However, to us outsiders, the Frari is famous for her artworks, notably... More

This is a beautiful church with several somewhat overstated monuments in it. The bit which is definitely worth seeing - apart, of course, from Titian's 'Assumption' at the east end - is the superb fifteenth-century wooden choirstalls.

When you want to understand the development of art and painting, this is a place to visit and see the originals from Tizian and Bellini. Both artists have designed reredos ( images behind the altar), that were outstanding masterpieces for their time. It makes you breathless to see (after you have visited other places in Venice where there you can... More

EZ to miss from the side street but take a moment from your Venice adventures to pause and reflect. Beautiful and solemn. The faithful pray the tourists gawk. Wonderful Italian art. One of over a hundred churches in Venice. Take a look, you'll be glad you did.

For a trivial €3 you get entrance to a church that looks very dull from the outside but holds some stunning artwork inside.

We tried to see all of the churches that are part of the CHORUS group -a list of churches that is included in a package deal-. We saw almost all sixteen. It was the work of two days and rather tiring, but worthwhile. This one we did not see the inside of but the outside of the structure is quite... More

Got lost and stumbled upon this building which from the outside is very deceiving, it looks large but very little to suggest it holds such wondrous views. €3 euro entry fee is nothing when walking around the inside and you get to admire such beautiful windows and craftsmanship. Very glad we happened upon this by chance and definitely worth searching... More

What a grandiose church it is this one. We got in around 5:30, which if I remember if I remember correctly it was the last time admittance, and we did not pay entrance ans my girlfriend was able to take photos.

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
