We did not get a chance to visit the island, but the views from the main island and the ferry boats were glorious.

We were recommended by our taxi driver from the airport as the area was supposedly full of traditional local cafe restaurants and bars. After hopping on the valpolletta crossing over to the island was a fun experience, but don't get off. Unfortunately it felt like the local council estate , clean tidy but really not a lot of character better... More

A small and nice island with few or no tourists. There is only 4 water bus stations far away from San Marco. There are not so many sightseeings, except from the cathedral, but there is a very enjoyable place. 1-2 hours are enough for it.

This island is very different, less busy and very intersting to visit. Old docks, small channels and different views of the laguna.

This is a slice of Venice that must not be missed. Explore the back calle. Take an aperitif on the waterfront and soak in the rhythms of a way of life!

We stayed in an apartment on this tranquil island. Easy to get to by vaporetto it was a lovely place to retreat to after a busy day seeing the sights. There is a Hilton here and other places to eat even in the winter. There are also places to get food and drink if you stay in an apartment.

On our last day in Venice we took a guided tour of the Basilica di San Marco and the Choistro di Sant'Apollonia. When we finished our tour we emerged into the massive early afternoon crowds on the Piazza San Marco. As a respite from those crowds we decided to hop on a vaporetto for the short ride across the Grand... More

Our Hilton hotel was located on Giudecca and it was the perfect way to see Venice. We were away from all the crowds and hawkers with quiet, intimate restaurants very nearby on the island.

if you want to escape the crowds of tourists then visit Guidecca for some peace and quiet. Many locals live here and there is the very imposing Hotel Hilton Molino at one end. Visit one of the few resturants for a lovely meal watching the boats go by.

Staying in Giudecca

Neighbourhood Profile
Giudecca
Giudecca is a retreat for Venetians away from the crowds. Symbolically, six metal teeth represent Venice’s six sestieri (districts); the seventh, Guidecca, points away from the others – part of Dorsoduro, but separated by the Giudecca Canal. Giudecca evolved from a center of shipyards and factories to a quiet residential area with a sprinkling of restaurants and bars. The majestic harmonious Redentore church stands as thanks for delivering Venice from the plague, hosting an annual heartfelt festival.
