On our last day in Venice we took a guided tour of the Basilica di San Marco and the Choistro di Sant'Apollonia. When we finished our tour we emerged into the massive early afternoon crowds on the Piazza San Marco. As a respite from those crowds we decided to hop on a vaporetto for the short ride across the Grand... More

Our Hilton hotel was located on Giudecca and it was the perfect way to see Venice. We were away from all the crowds and hawkers with quiet, intimate restaurants very nearby on the island.

if you want to escape the crowds of tourists then visit Guidecca for some peace and quiet. Many locals live here and there is the very imposing Hotel Hilton Molino at one end. Visit one of the few resturants for a lovely meal watching the boats go by.

If you wish to see Venice by yourself, not accompanied by thousands of other visitors, come here! Tiny houses, courtyards, side gardens, kanals. And views! Easy to come by vaporetto, stop name Palanca /Giudecca. Right there is a Pizzeria (forgot name) with quite space inside, simple but GREAT.

We did not enter this place but rode past it on the vaporetto to Lido Island. I had never seen these gigantic cruise liners- 15 stories high, carrying thousands of people. That was an amazing experience. I saw them docked and also being towed in the harbor. It's amazing how close to St. Mark's Square these ships are allowed to... More

My partner & I stayed on this island when we visited Venice and it is a stunning place to stay. The locals are friendly, they have some lovely restaurants & bars. It is very historic with some stunning churches & buildings to look at. It is only ins away from Venice by water taxi so give this island a go... More

Beautiful waterway that serves as transportation around Venice. Across from St. Mark's and the Venice water front.

We stayed at the Hilton on Giudeca and at first were concerned with being across the grand canal, but it was a wonderful way to get away from the tourists at the end of the day. This island was a relaxing reprieve. Also it is great that your water taxi can drop you off right at your hotel so that... More

We have stayed on La Giudecca 3 times and enjoy the easy access to Venice with the hotel shuttle and the more relaxed pace at the end of the day or for a mid-afternoon break. The Hilton is a good choice and great view of Venice from the 7 th floor. Good food is found in a couple of convenient... More

A little peaceful island, not as full of tourists as the main island. Not very much to do...take a walk, admire the old buildings or churches, have a stop for a meal or just for a drink and then go back to the main island.

Staying in Giudecca

Neighbourhood Profile
Giudecca is a retreat for Venetians away from the crowds. Symbolically, six metal teeth represent Venice’s six sestieri (districts); the seventh, Guidecca, points away from the others – part of Dorsoduro, but separated by the Giudecca Canal. Giudecca evolved from a center of shipyards and factories to a quiet residential area with a sprinkling of restaurants and bars. The majestic harmonious Redentore church stands as thanks for delivering Venice from the plague, hosting an annual heartfelt festival.
