A great collection

Just go there. The collection is huge, the building amazing. Watch out for the bronze horse and rider.

Peggy Guggenheim's collection might be neglected by some, since they have to see many amazing sights at probably just few days, but they would really miss a unique, very personal museum by an extrordinary woman. Centrally placed and with lovely river view for the doubtfull.

Stopped here on our way somewhere else and ended up spending half a day here. The interns working on site are brilliant. Able to answer any questions and also share stories of Peggy's life. Beautiful pieces of work by Kandinsky and Picasso amongst others. Lots of comfy sofas to chill and look at amazing art. Photos around the museum to... More

I imagine this is heaving in summer - but we had the place pretty much to ourselves out of season so we're able to soak in what is truly an extraordinary collection. Of particular excitement are the abstract impressionists - Motherwell, still, Pollock etc - and surrealists. Definitely still as exciting as ever .

Peggy Guggenheim had a vision, and we experienced it today in her former residence. Fabulous attention to detail, beautiful art, and a gallery that was elegant and beautiful in so many ways. A must visit.

The wonderful Peggy Gug - a stunning colleciton of modern art in Peggy's former home - a stunning stunted palazzo on the Grand Canal. Just so atmospheric to wander through her home and see the collection she loved. Kandinsky, Pollock, Picasso, Magritte - and becautiful sculptures in the garden alongside the resting places of her 'babies'. Not to be missed.

There is so much history behind the iconic Peggy herself and her collection that it is a must to have a guide to explain everything to you otherwise you will miss so many crucial details that make the collection so special. A remarkable woman who treasured this collection of art and joined the campaign to have these pieces recognised as... More

Whether or not you love art, this is well worth the time to visit. An amazing selection of paintings from an incredible benefactor. From a room filled with nothing but Jason Pollock canvases to the serene Nasher Sculpture Garden, and so much more, this is a place you don't want to miss.

Fantastic private collection of modern art. Cubism, abstract expressionism and more in a manageable size. Lovely quiet location with surprise Grand Canal views.

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
