You can't miss it. Next to St. Mark's Basilica, is probably the second most known church in Venice. Built with white stone, the church holds another great collection or paintings and sculptures in an octagonal base. Glasswork is impressive. No entrance fee (unless interested in the sacristy).

Love going there on Nov 21st when the Venetians celebrate the Salute church with it's procession with the "Black Madonna" as they say thank you for ending the plague some centuries ago...

Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute located on the mouth of Venice's Grand Canal is one of Italy's great churches as well as a visual icon of the city. With a water front view of the facade from our hotel it was a natural must see location. The magnificent interior has faded somewhat like most of Venice but picturesque exterior... More

One of the only churches in Venice that you can enter free of charge. The intricacy of the architecture alone is well worth the walk.

We decided to visit this beautiful Basilica after Peggy Guggenheim Collection, because it's pretty close to this place. But there are lot of tiny streets to get there and during the afternoon it was so terribly crowded, that we had to stay in the middle of "nowhere". It would be much better to visit during the mornings.

Out of tragedy came great beauty. A third of Venice’s population is said to have perished in a great plague in 1630 (London also experience a great plague later in the century). To commemorate the City’s survival, this great octagonal baroque church was commissioned and started construction in 1631 to designs of the architect Baldassare Longhena. Many of the artworks... 50 Years to build and a beautiful building to commemorate the end of the plague in Venice. Fantastic paintings in a stunning setting and not one of the tourist spots that gets too busy

very interesting church. it's a bit more humble than the typical st. marks basilica or st. peter's, but very beautiful notheless. the church stands next to a big canal and there's this stairs outside where you can sit and relax, observing the sunset in the river.

Nice walk to here, through the winding streets. Nice place to sit and contemplate life. Nice at night, quiet.

Sit and view this church from a distance in the evening setting sun until you begin to feel it's magic . I love churches and for me nothing anywhere compares to the sheer poetic beauty of Salute .
