San Marco may be Venice's most famous church by name, but this church may be Venice's most famous by image and silhouette! Immortalized by Canaletto's famous Grand Canal drawings and followed by later landscape artists, SM Salute was always the main character in the typical Grand Canal scene thanks to her canalside location and prominent dome. Built as a thanksgiving... More

This is one of those WOW cathedrals. Some are lovely, some are pleasing, others may be beautiful, breathtaking or simply interesting. This one is amazing and that is only considering the view from the outside. I didn't get a chance to see this at night but I'm certain that it would be extremely striking as it is quite close to... Our gondolier recommended we visited as his parents married here. It was beautiful and very calm after the bustle of tourists in St Marks square

Lovely church built by the Venetians to petition the Virgin Mary to intervene to stop the plague decimating the City. Free entry and able to take photos inside to capture the lovely detail.

This is a gorgeous church, tardis-like it seems bigger inside than it looked from the outside and decoratively it is simply beautiful. I look forward to seeing it again!

Surprisingly small inside but perfectly proportioned and empty in the early morning, a true luxury in Venice in the summer seeing a place without a crowd. Go at opening and have the place to yourself. Close to the Guggenheim

The basilica is huge (from the outside, but also from the inside) and it is easy to reach it. The view from here is very nice.

Built to curry favour with God during the plague in 1630, the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute (Salute for short) is a curious mixture of simple and grand. The marble floors, the central chandelier, the columns: it is a structure of great beauty. Admission is free, but you can of course feel free to make a donation. The location... More

Whereas I enjoy looking at the architecture and interesting features of churches and cathedrals, I do find they can be too similar to make an indelible impression on me. There are exceptions, of course, but generally a church I see in an Italian city looks similar to most others from the outside, incredibly ornate inside and any “wow” factor experienced... More
