A very interesting tour of what was the home of the Foscari family, and is now part of the university. The tour was conducted/guided by one of the students and included a good deal of the history of the building, the surrounding area, and Venice in general. Highly recommended...

This is a great opportunity to see inside Ca' Foscari and (on some days) Ca' Dolfin, two important Venetian palaces which are now university buildings. Our guide was an economics student who spoke excellent English and knew her stuff. Really enjoyable and informative. The view over the bend of the Grand Canal from Ca' Foscari is stunning. €5.50

Take the time to book a tour for yourselves if at all possible. Your guide will be a very knowledgeable university student. You will get to see the work of Scarpa, Sironi, and de Luigi, as well as anonymous Medieval and Renaissance masters. If needed, an elevator is available.

Fantastic journey through time, exciting information about the history of the building, and the biggest courtyard in Venice. A lot of symbolism to be discovered. Great guide and introduction to the works of the famous architect Carlo Scarpa, painters Schiavoni and Sironi, and sculptor Deluigi.

If you are looking to spend a few hours discovering something in Venice which is less 'touristy', try this tour. The buildings and architecture are amazing and learning more about the history of Venice was fascinating. You also get to see one of the best views on the grand canal.Try a coffee in the cafe too it was very good.Well... More

It's something most people don't do, but worth it! You get to know a lot about the history of the grand palaces in Venice, about the history of education in Venice but also about WWII- architecture, also: you get to see the best view on Canal Grande

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
