Prebooked Gondola tour for 1530. Arrived to a line of apx. 20 people. Due to wet weather, less Gondolas were operating (only 5) and they sit six customers. The staff spoke very little English and came across as rude and unsympathetic. When gondolas arrived, if a tour group also came they would be put straight on first and we had... More

We prebooked and pre paid for this gondola ride months in advance for our trip. We arrived for a 3:30 gondola ride 10 minutes in advance as indicated by our voucher. We asked where to go and we were told to join a queue upon arrival. This queue was already 20 or so people long. After half an hour the... More

I called Agenzia Gondolieri Travel and booked a 60 minute Gondola ride for 6 people. The price was good. The ride was good too along the Grand Canal and into some small canals. The one complaint we had was that our Gondola Driver didn't stop talking to all of the other Gondola drivers. We tried asking him questions we got... More

When we wanted to cross the Grande Canal without using a bridge a Traghetto was a great alternative. We used one after visiting the Santa maria della Salute.Crossing at the Giglio. Traghetto crossings are shown on any map of Venice The cost is a few euros.. You need to be careful getting into a traghetto so probably not great for... More

O course you want to take a gondola boat ride: you are in Venice. The cost for a gondola is signposted at all places where you can get onto a boat, and states the cost per time-duration (this more expensive at night). The boatman will try to seel you a "better deal option": more expensive, but offering a better trip... More

Do not book or pre-book this sham of a Gondola ride. My wife & I had pre-booked this Gondola ride on our honeymoon to Italy and it was our worst experience in Italy. The pre-booking mean't absolutely nothing. We arrived, as requested on the ticket 20 minutes before our 19.00 Gondola ride. There was still a large queue in place... More

I couldn't wait for our prebooked romantic honeymoon sunset gondola ride with serenade. Had spent two days watching various couples and tourists ride around the canals. Upon arrival to this crowd, there was a large queue, we missed the sunset. Next we read you may be asked to share. Ok I can still cope with that. But when my husband... More

I booked a gondola serenade in advance before my trip. This place was a bit hard to get to, but would be easier for someone in that neighborhood. When we arrived there was a large line and it appeared everyone had reservations. When booking this I was given the option for a serenade or not. I paid more for the... More

the Gondolier from near ferrovia took 80 Euro/ hour, sent us out on a 20 min ride and mocked my watch! we did not get a receipt either. hope some regulatory body steps in. I suppose picking one near San Silvestro may be better, as there are more gondoliers waiting for employment.

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
