The Orchestra Virtuosi di Venezia-Orchestra da camera di San Marco had been...

The Orchestra Virtuosi di Venezia-Orchestra da camera di San Marco had been formed in 2002 under the inspiration of Vivaldi's work. The ensemble and the musical formation have both been chosen to recall the exact situation in which Vivaldi worked and reproposes in its concerts the athmosphere and the genio of the Red Priest' compositions. The Orchestra was born with the intention and the honor of paying tribute to the great composer in the prestigious Ateneo di San Basso, in San Marco square, whose hall has the same dimensions of the Pieta Institue music hall, in which Vivaldi composed.

Concert: The Four Seasons by Vivaldi and other pieces

The playing was superb and the venue had wonderful acoustics. Our view of the players was partially obscured but that didn't detract from our enjoyment of the music.

A visit to Venice should always include an evening with Virtuosi di Venezia. The soloists were outstanding. Bravo

We went to both the opera and Vivaldi evenings and enjoyed both. Excellent musicians, beautiful music, classic surroundings. We lived two blocks away, had dinner at one of the great restaurants in the area, wondered through St Mark's to the concert and then back out through the square for a late night drink and dessert afterwards. Beautiful evenings in a... More

What a delightful evening! Small and intimate, but magic. Even if you are not normally into this kind of event, go do it while in Venice. It will enchant you, the well known melodies export you to another world. Great for a rainy evening, and perfect when you are travelling alone.

This performance caused emotional tears to run down my checks. We had an opera singer 5 ft away at one point. The musicians and both opera singers were all outstanding. It truly was one of the highlights of our stay in Venice. It was a bargain for this quality of music. Fit this experience into your trip if you can.

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
