I am fortunate to have taken courses at this school four different times. It is absolutely wonderful and I recommend classes here without reservation. On my first visit 3 years ago, I could hardly speak a word of Italian but now feel quite confident in my ability to communicate. All of the teachers have been superior and with very small... More

I had a great three weeks a the Venice Italian School (for the third year in a row). I learned a great deal and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The school is certainly the most welcoming learning institution I have ever attended. Next May - 2017 - I plan to return. Many thanks to all the team at Venice Italian School... More

The experience of a lifetime! I so enjoyed everything about my week in Venice and plan on going back. The teachers were amazing as were the other students. I lived with a wonderful woman who did not speak English....what a hoot! It is the best of all experiences when you can be immersed in a language surrounded by such wonderful... More

My wife and I attended the school for a week. We enjoyed the staff immensely and benefited substantially from their well-considered lesson plans. Our class was small, just five people and while our levels were not exactly the same, Diego and his staff were able to construct lessons that met all of our needs. And we had a lot of... More

My wife and I just spent two weeks with Diego and colleagues for the second year running, it was such a great experience the first time that we simply wanted to return. We both improved our Italian with excellent instruction from Marta, Alessandra, Jacopo and Diego. The different teachers have different approaches which is very helpful and they all make... More

We spent one week at the school. I loved the small groups and the cosy setting. I was with four delightful students (3 Americans and one Japanese). Jacopo and Alessandra were excellent teachers, offering a range of interesting and stimulating activities in a very supportive atmosphere. Diego arranged extremely good bed and breakfast accommodation for us in a quiet location... More

I had a wonderful week and would recommend the school to anyone who is learning Italian or wants to make a start. Perfectly located with great teachers, 2 for each group, who provided interesting and varied ways of teaching with humour and a good dose of insights into Italian ways of living. Thank you Jacopo and Alessandra for your patience,... More

Diego provided wonderful prompt, flexible friendly service during the whole time I had the joy of being a customer of his school. His helpful service began soon after I emailed with an enquiry, and continued until my last day there. The school is in a lovely residential location next to an amazing cathedral with Titian's tomb in it (a must-see),... More

The lessons are customised to the level of the students, the structure of the classes both in content, and in the swapping of the teacher half way through the morning was really great. At the start of the week we struggled to introduce ourselves, at the end the conversations were easier and far more natural. It gave me the confidence... More

Learning Italian with Diego, Lucia and their colleague teachers was a real pleasure, as well as a challenge, which is just as it should be. I spent two weeks at the Venice Italian School in March and it definitely exceeded my expectations. I particularly appreciated their flexible and responsive approach, well-structured sessions and varied teaching methods. Also good were the... More

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
