Our tour with Igor was just what we wanted/needed. We started with a boat tour where we saw and learned so much. Then a lovely walking tour starting at the Riolto market. His tour gave us a good understanding of Venice. He is entertaining, professional, helpful and very knowledgeable. You will be glad you had your tour with Igor.

We had a private tour with Igor on September 25. He took us on an "off the beaten path" tour. It was a great tour. I'd say going to the hospital is definitely "off the beaten path"! We were so engaged in the tour, we didn't even realize how far we had walked. Igor took us to an authentic Venetian... More

I was only able to use this service for a private transfer from the cruise ship terminal to the airport, but they were such a pleasure to deal with that I wouldn't hesitate to book a tour with them on a return trip. Igor wrote me back with very clear information, and worked out all the details. I had contact... More

We booked this company for two tours. The first tour was off-the-beaten-path with Igor. He met us (early) in our hotel lobby and we began with a brief overview of Venetian history and the present. We walked several kilometers and were very surprised when Igor showed us the path we had taken. He was delightful to be with -- we... More

Igor picked us up at Al Ponte Mocenigo 15 minutes early for what was to be a Venice off the beaten path tour for 3 hours. We were immediately impressed by his attention to the smallest details he happened to see and his ability to give us the story behind that detail. Along our trip we passed through the Jewish... Igor was a fantastic and enthusiastic guide to Venice and we would highly recommend him to friends and family. We kept a good pace (per our request) as he showed us the ins-and-outs (and secret alleys) of Venice, toured us through famous vistas and sites, and led us through San Marco and other architectural wonders. Our time with Igor was... More

We booked a tour with Igor for our family of 7. Unfortunately Igor was not available for our tour and we were given another tour guide. The tour guide we were given was Beth. I cannot comment on Igor's abilities, but if they are anything like Beth's, there is no need to worry. Beth was a fantastic tour guide and... More

My husband & I were told to book with Igor if we wanted to see Venice in a way that the other tours don't do. We made arrangements for Igor to meet us in our hotel lobby at 12:30pm for our 2 hour walking behind the scenes tour. WELL, we had over slept & front desk said your tour guide... More

We spent a day in Venice in August. The trip was made really special due to Igor, our guide. He accommodated all that we asked for and even more. We had two teenagers with us, and he was able to keep the commentary interesting for them too. We started the tour with a private water taxi cruise around Venice. Along... More

Davide Calenda was our guide and we arranged for a 6 hour private tour of Venice. He met us at our hotel, and led us through a myriad of wonders. As we walked and talked, we slowly gained knowledge of the entire history of Venice, while we were delighted by some of the most fascinating architecture of the ages. Davide... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
