My family (incl 12 and 16 year boys) had a wonderful day with Marika! We spent the morning at the morning at the market, learning about the local products - where they were grown, what made them special, how to look for the freshest seafood. The cooking was a journey into how to make those ingredients shine. Along the way, Marika peppered in stories and tidbits, showing us why cooking is such an amazing lens into culture and history! We all had a great time and looking for to our next visit!

I booked this event. I never received a confirmation. I emailed several times with no response. I’m so disappointed as I planned all of the tours for my trip ahead of time. I hope that in the future you improve communication with guests!

One of the best experiences in Italy. Located on the beautiful Lido Island just a quick water taxi ride from Venice. We eat and drank and cooked and learned a lot about Italian cuisine. I highly recommend taking a cooking class here. The classes are personal and in a beautiful villa surrounded by gardens.

We just left the class, feeling fully satisfied and happy. The class was jam packed with information and instruction. We learned and made 3 raviolis, two gnocchi, and pasta with two tomato based sauces. Chef was funny, knowledgeable , and patient

Marika's cooking class was incredible, delicious, and provided us with a lifetime of wonderful memories. I highly recommend taking her class. She was a terrific instructor, kept it fun, provided a lot of interesting history and information on what we were preparing, had a lovely staff, and her class was in her beautiful home. We couldn't ask for a better experience. If in Venice, a cooking class at Acquolina is a must!

We had an amazing and unique cooking experience at Acquolina in the beautiful villa Ines. My friend and I shared this special day with our 17 year old granddaughters. Marika, a professional chef who worked in NY, has excellent and patient teaching skills for all ages and abilities. She taught us all the necessary techniques for rolling pasta, plus preparing gnocchi, pizza & gelato in her absolutely gorgeous kitchen.
After cooking we had the the opportunity to enjoy all the delicious food we prepared.
We brought home a copy of the recipes and our granddaughters are very excited to prepare a dinner for us with the recipes they collected. This was a wonderful bonding experience that I would recommend for everyone.
Grazie Mille Marika

We were recently in Venice for three glorious weeks for my birthday. As part of my birthday presents, ,my husband set up a cooking class in Lido with Marika Saguso of Acquolina Catering (there is an Aquolina in NY as well as in Venice). We decided on Marika's class after reading several glowing reviews on her Acquolina website and on TripAdvisor. We were lucky enough to get Marika on her last two teaching days before she closes up shop for the holidays. Even luckier, we were her only students on those two days in early December, probably due to the low season. This was to be my first ever cooking class in Europe. I am a professional cook in the SF Bay Area and my husband is also an excellent cook so our expectations and our apprehension that we won't learn anything useful was probably much higher than most. We were not disappointed in the least.
First of all, Marika's house and B&B in Lido, Villa Ines, was set in beautiful grounds in a residential area just 10 minutes from Venice by Vapparetto Marika and her B&B business partner, Stefano, keep a beautiful B&B with rooms all expertly decorated with beautiful furniture which included plenty of Murano glass fixtures. The prices for the rooms are surprisingly affordable. If you want to be away from the craziness of Venice proper during high season, Lido is a great alternative and Villa Ines should be in your considerations. The cooking class was held in Marika's private kitchen on the third floor of the house where she lives with her husband and 4 children. And what a kitchen. Surely the kitchen of any chef's dreams. What a great treat to learn cooking in such a fabulous setting.
I cannot say enough about Marika Saguso. She is extremely warm and personable. We immediately noticed that she is truly passionate about food and it comes through in her teaching. She spent 8 years working in New York so teaching in English is not a problem for her. Marika immediately picked up on our cooking expertise and interest in food and spent two days giving us intensive cooking lessons covering everything from making gnocchi to black ink spaghetti with cuttle fish, a Venetian specialty. She was thorough as well as entertaining and the attention to detail was remarkable. Both my husband and I learned many tricks and secrets of Venetian and northern Italian cooking in those two days. The food we prepared together was some of the best food I have ever had in Italy. We were staying in an apartment in Dorsoduro in Venice and we had access to a good kitchen. We were able to practice what we learned right away and the results were fantastic. Marika taught us well. With the great seafood available at the Rialto Market, we were in heaven! All in all, we were both very impressed. Marika's business partner and B&B manager Stefano and we think she is a cooking genius. If I was a television producer, I would sign her up on the spot. Marika would no doubt be a huge hit on either American or Italian television!
If you want a special experience that will remain with you through your life. Take Marika's class. You will learn important and essential techniques for the perfect Venetian and northern Italian meal that you will never get from a cookbook or a television show.

My wife and I just spent 7 beautiful days in Venice celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary. One of the best highlights was our cooking class with Marika. She is a lovely person and an amazing chef. She treats you like an old friend from the moment you meet. She exudes a genuine passion for food and desire to bring people together through the experience of cooking. My wife and I felt perfectly at home in Marika's kitchen. I am a NYC lawyer -- not a cook. And yet Marika taught us how to prepare the most delightful lunch of risotto, veal, vegetable fritatta, and pear strudel. It was made perfect with prosecco and pinot grigio from her family's vineyard. We highly recommend this culinary adventure. My words cannot describe how much fun and how delicious the afternoon turned out. Thank you so much Marika for being such a delightful part of our wonderful anniversary vacation.
We also want to point out how Marika's assistant Mariana made sure that our cooking class went off without a hitch. Unwittingly, we happened to book our class during an extremely busy time for Marika and her team -- the Biennale of Venice. They were preparing feverishly for dozens of catering events that week. But Mariana made sure to clear Marika's schedule so that our class would take place. So we give a special thank you to Mariana as well! Your persistence and professionalism made it happen.
My wife and I cannot wait to return to Venice to learn more from Marika and partake in another glorious meal. Next time, we hope to stay at her B&B too.

I had booked the Aquolina cooking class for myself and my husband during our time in Venice. They had promptly confirmed our class, and communication regarding the class was great. Then about a week before we depart for Italy I receive an email asking what days we will be in Venice, as they will need to have some work done in their kitchen and may be juggling somethings around, is my impression. I am more than happy to switch class times, and relay that in email. I then receive an email CANCELLING my class, because no one else had signed up for our date. So, less than a week before we arrive in Venice, our class is cancelled. Good luck to me booking another class in the days that I am there. Unbelievably unprofessional company, and take your 300+£ elsewhere!!

Dear Christine,
I totally understand your discontent and frustration in not being able to enjoy one of our sought-after cooking classes.
We receive many requests every day and believe me, we always try to satisfy them all (as you can read on the numerous reviews) even on holidays where Chef Marika may have personal and family commitments
(please read this review "Highlight of my Holiday" of Jeni360 on May 9th 2014: "... Marika was very kind to run a cooking class just for me on a festival day")
We frequently make numerous exceptions because we understand that our customers sometimes have only a few days in Venice and insist on participating in our wonderful lessons.
Therefore Marika, when possible, opens up extra dates (for example this year we had classes even on Easter Sunday and on Christmas), or afternoon's and evening classes. Besides running a Catering Company that organizes events & Special Dinners for important names in fashion, Marika wants to personally take care of her guests.
When we tried to move the guests of your date we were unable to satisfy you, as well as it happens to us that we get last minute cancellations because there are unexpected problems during our guests' trip. Things like this may happen to everybody!
Next time you will be in Venice, please contact us and we will be happy to welcome you to enjoy an Authentic Italian Culinary Experience with Marika.

My husband and I are traveling through Italy on our honeymoon. It also happened to be my husband's birthday during our trip. I booked a cooking class two weeks in advance as his present only to have the school cancel on me the morning of the class. I emailed the school twice before the class to confirm but never received a response. Very unprofessional.

Dear Eph2,
We cannot have cancelled what we never confirmed. No classes were scheduled for that date and your was a “request only”.
Clients send a REQUEST and our classes are confirmed manually by email.
This is how it works:
The client requests availability for a class, and the automatic reply states:
"This is a request ONLY.
Your class is not confirmed yet.
Nothing will be charged on your credit card now.
We will process your request in the next few days and will reply soon."
This is what happened:
- On May 19th you received the automatic answer (as written above);
- On May 22nd we responded: "Yours is just a request, we haven't confirmed yet.
We require a minimum of 3 pax and at the moment there is only the two of you.
We still have a few days and will contact you IF class is confirmed."
Unfortunately we did not have other people interested and that's why we never confirmed the class to you.
The day of the cooking class you made a phone call to our office asking news about the class, I obviously answered you there was not cooking class as it was never confirmed to you.
As the Cooking class was a gift for your husband, we offered you a free visit to one of the most famous Murano Glass Factories, to give you a unique experience that could surprise your husband in this special day.
It’s a pity that you never answer to our offer because we are sure you missed a great Experience that was not due but was coming out from the generosity of the chef, understanding your feeling.

My wife and I will be staying in Castello, Venezia, Veneto from 4/16th-4/19th. We want to take this cooking class on either Wednesday or Thursday, 4/17th or 4/18th, but are wondering what is the best way to go from where we are staying to Lido, how long it takes, and trying to make sure it fits into our short schedule while we are in Venice. The cooking class sounds great and yummy, so any info would be greatly appreciated. Corey and Jen Copeland

In order to reach Lido from Venice, you need to take the vaporetto (water buses) or a water Taxi. The journey from Venice to Lido takes about 10-20 minutes depending on which part of Venice you depart. Then you can walk to the cooking class once you get off the vaporetto.

I will be in Venice from the 20th November to the 9th December. From Monday to Friday I will be attending Italian Language school. I will be available for the classes on a Saturday and Sunday. I am most interested in pasta making classes.

Check the availability on their website. I booked through there and everything was smooth! It was by far one of the best things lve done. I now cook pasta at home weekly and its so simple you will wonder why you ever bought that packet stuff :-)

I am planning a trip to Venice with my 72 year old mother who is unable to stand or walk very long (maybe 10 minutes without resting).
She loves to cook and eat. Can you accommodate older guests with chair or seating option?
Written 20 July 2016
There is a lift that we took up to one of the floors. We then had to walk up another flight of stairs. So lm unsure if the lift goes entirely to the too floor. The class itself was fantastic and lm now cooking pasta at home!! Definitely check with marika herself as to the lift situation. Your mother may find it hard walking up the last flight of stairs
