If you are after a spectacular world-class view, head into the church past the fading artwork to the small lift (€8 - cash ONLY) and ride to the top of the campanile (bell tower). Venice and its shimmering lagoon lies spread out at your feet....More

The church of San Giorgio Maggiore is somewhat ordinary and primarily functions as museum. The exhibits were interesting, but the real draw for us was the spectacular views! The views of San Marco and the basin from San Giorgio island are panoramic and spectacular whether...More

Near the church you can see a wonderful snake made of glass blocks as well as worthwhile exhibits showing how art glass is made. The church itself is rather pedestrian in its decoration. Plan so that you can avoid a time-wasting round trip on the...More

The church by USA standards is outstanding, but in Venice there are a dozen that are strickenly better. What cannot be missed is the 360 degree panoramic view of the entire Venician island! AND the biggest bonus is the elevator ride to the top. This...More

The square in front of the dome provides you with the best panoramic view of Venice with its three islands running away from San Giorgio and San Marco Piazza

Easy ride on vaporetto. If you’re a photographer, the better lighting is in the morning. At night, the sun is in front of you (nice if you want silhouette).FYI.

If you have time stop in at this quaint little island to visit the theatre and Church. Water taxi is the best way to visit but they can be expensive

Beware a 5 minute taxi ride cost us 50 euros - rather shocking - take the water bus instead. Outstanding views of 360 degrees of Venetian islands. Avoid crowds by going early - very small space at the top. Bells ring loudly right next to...More

San Giorgio Maggiore is a little island with a church with a bell tower across the Grand Canal from st Marks square. Take the pubic water bus from near st Marks square to get there. You can take the elevator up the bell tower for...More
