You can't visit Venice without travelling by water in & around the lagoon. Sunset on a good day is something to see & not to be missed. Enjoy

We used the 20 Euro 24 hour travel card to take the vaporetto around the lagoon. We visited Murano, Burano and then Lido. Murano and Burano are well worth visiting (with Burano being the favorite) and the Lido can be skipped unless you really want...More

Buy yourself a 24 hour travel pass (20 Euros onboard) and visit the islands - We went to Murano and Burano and explored the wonderful glass and lace making shops. Burano seemed to have more restaurants than Murano. The trip across the lagoon gives you...More

Pretty on a sunny day from a water bus or taxi! People had warned us about the smell but the water seemed really clean and smelt fresh!

Murano is well worth a visit to see the Murano glass but watch out for the cheap and nasties and also we found some of the big commercial operators a little over the top. Keep exploring and you will find skilled and passionate workers like...More

Murano is disappointing and no better pieces or prices than on Venice. Burano buildings are good for photos. The churches on Torcello are unexpectedly good. Definately worth the visit and lovely green stroll to get to them.

A definite thing to do. One can purchase tickets on the dock, the day before you decide to go. This is more economical than booking through your travel agent. I do believe the tour people should allow more time on each island--45 minutes not enough.Murano...More

Questions & AnswersAsk a question
Hi Is it possible to do justice to Murano, Burano and Torcello in an afternoon (making use of our 24 hour travel pass!) or should we just concentrate on one or two? If we can do it, has anyone got a suggested itinerary complete with vaporetto numbers and timings please? From Piazzale Roma. Thank you

I'd prioritize them and do the one I am most interested first and then just see how it goes. My philosophy, even thought you didn't ask is that my vacation means not adhering to a schedule. Having a list of options and just... More
I am in a hotel on the grand canal, I was going to book a trip to murano and burano but it seems you can get to them without booking a tour. Is it possible to go in the places and pay or do you have to be on a tour

I think the master glass blowing demonstration in one of the factory on the island of Murano is free. But you need to check the time when demonstration is given to the public.

If you want to swim you should head over to Lido where there are beaches on the Adriatic side of the island. We were advised that the water around the main islands in the lagoon was too dirty for fish to live, or for... More
